Default noisy z6 wtf?

well I got my car running pretty good, it just has a basemap though so im not tryin to beat on it at all, but the problem is after driving it for a while the under hood temps are hot as hell, the guage dosent read any hotter then usual but the valve cover and radiator and everything else is alot hotter then a normal n/a motor, and the car is making loud knocking noises when its real hot, its not a rod knock, trust me I know the sound of that... could it be the oil breaking down? im running castrol gtx 5w30, what oil are the rest of you boosted guys running? the funny thing is I let the car cool down over night and come back in the morning and the noises are gone! dont mean to sound like a dumbass but im new to the turbo ----.

Yes, turbos run things hot. I've had my hood steaming during a light rainfall, and adjacent cars in traffic or the nice lady atthe Taco Bell drivein try to tell me I'm overheating... when I'm not.

Is it a snapping/valve tick noise? That can be caused by an exhaust leak. Or is it a deeper honest to god rod knock sound?

I hate to say it but it kinda sounds like a rod knock, I sure as hell hope not, Ive heard rod knocks many times before though unfortunatley, and it sounds different...like when I free rev it it does it around 2k rpm's but goes away after the car cools all the way down. could it be timing? what oil should I be running? and will actual coolant help more too? I have just plain water in the radiator. Thanks for the help.

Water boils a lot quicker than 50/50 coolant mix. Hope you have a thermostat in to build pressure, and pressure raises boilling point and is crucial to actually cooling the engine.

It's a Z6, nig nog, it's real easy to check for rod knock. Rod knock eats away at bearings... you can pull your VTEC solenoid off, three easy bolts, and check the screen for a pile of bearing debris.

ill check it out, I dotn really think its a rod though, the motor sounds good today, its just slow and gets gas milage like a 4 barrel 454 it needs tuned bad, I think the noise could be timing, pinging maybe? but it does it without a load, and im running 92 octane but I cant get a accurate reading as to where the ignition timing is at 450's and a shitty basemap=rough idle...ill check the vtec solenoid tomorrow, and add coolant, I also wired my fan to a switch so I can turn it on whenever, it still turns on when the car thinks it needs it too, even if the switch is off, thanks again!

well, you were right, spun a bearing, what the ---- am I doing wrong? this is the 2nd motor that this happend to, the bearing squishes out the sides of the rod journal, is it timing thats doing this? heat? what? I only took this ---- above 3500 like 2 or 3 times in the 2 weeks I was driving it because it wasnt tuned and I was trying to be careful. I was hella easy on it, Im gonna see if I can replace the bearing without pulling the motor, if the crank looks okay...this is bullshit!

If the upper half of the rod bearing(s) looks worse off, it is because of detonation.

Find a tuner, or bite it and buy wideband and tuning gear.

thanks for the help man, maybe I will just get the money together for a wideband and a burner and ----, every tuner I get ahold of either flakes on me or is too busy to tune a boaring sohc vtec on 8psi, last questions I guess is what should base timing be set at, and what oil should I run. thanks!

Man after that ACL upper snapped in half on me, I never thought that detonation was to blame but yeah that probably did it. Funny thing is the bearing never spun and it never knocked. Tossed a new one in and ran it for months before I sold the car.
