newb question, zc basemap

ive got 2 computers, the stock zc pm7 and a 90 pm6

i have that weird idle issue that ive heard other people talk of with their zc's.
the car will not start and run with the 1000 of the safc set at -38, i have to bring it down to at least -31 for the car to idle.
but with the stock pm6 the car idles fine.
anyway, so today i had the zif installed on my pm6 and i have a pre burned chip from "surfer" he was a user on here i dunno if he still posts.
but it was dynod for a zc turbo and so i used his chip as a basemap, installed it in the zif, started the car, started good, idled good and i gave it a couple revs and it felt good revving, then i remembered that stupid me, i still have the old safc settings, so i shut off the car and scaled everything to zero percent on my safc and then turned the key again, and this is what i found.

i started the car and it just shut down, seemed like it was bogging hard, kinda like how it is with the stock zc computer an -38 on the safc running the 450cc injectors./
so i was like wtf, this shouldn't do this.
so i scaled the ---- back to -31 at idle and sure enough it started right back up.

what does this mean?
or am i an idiot and i should just download the new zc basemap?

also, second quetsion i wanted to get off my chest.
if i dont have an external burner that i can take with me in the car, how do i go about tuning my ----, do i just go with a wideband and see if it goes lean and keep re burning and then going for a drive, and then re burnin and going for a drive?

this could take a long time.

ive got the datalog cable (xenocron) but what else do i need to datalogg my junk?

Not really sure on your AFC issue...weird but its probably something simple.

As far as tuning, yep, thats what I did for a long ass while when tuning. I would go out for a drive and target a specific section of the map and I would write down or remember what I saw on the Wideband at 'Y' RPMs and 'X' MAP...I would also log with my LM-1 and look at those. COme home, make small changes, reburn the chip and go back out...it was tedious at best.

For datalogging, you just need the cable and a laptop and download ECU Control on your puter and go!

thanx for the chipping kit btw, got it with no problems and it works great so far, i had the zif professionaly installed for free, he de soldered the stock chip without ruining it and used all kinds of protective sprays and cleaned the resign off the board and soldered it all back up.
really nice guy.

but someone else with a zc must know an asnwer to the idle issue.

with the stock zc computer the idle needs to be richened up quite a bit, but with the pre burned chip the computer needs to be leaned out to hell.
i would like to know if its just at idle this is a problem or the entire rev band, i guess i wont know until i get a wideband
but im not about to go for a drive and find out :-\

and if you are tuning, what do you tune for, since boost comes on at different times and can increase and decrease, do you have to tune for max boost as well as low boost? do you have to tune for partial throttle and all that ---- too?
damn

and that datalogging calble, do i just solder in thoes four pins in the right holes and im good to go install wise? it seems i need a TTL to RS232 converter board. where do i route the cable, or do i drill a hole in the casing?

I have a ZC running TurboEdit and I have leaned the idle out "alot". It will still load up at a stop light and bog when I take off. I am getting a LM-1 next week so I am waiting until then to do anything about it. It idled fine with the stock ECU and it still idles smooth if you only let it idle for a few seconds. I just rev it a few times when I am at a light so it won't load up. Only bad thing about that is some of the "ricers" think I want to race. ::)

As for the DL cable...yep exactly...CN3 is the spot you look for, use holes 1-4.

#1 - Ground

#3 - + 5v

#2 & #4 are Tx and RX but I dont remember them off the top of my head.

Check out www.ecucontrol.com and he has a nice little write-up entitled "How To Mod My ECU" thats easy to follow.

Turbo-Dan is the entire reason I got into turbo Hondas.

I saw his old DPFI turbo setup all those years ago, and said, "I can do that!" ...and look where we are today. :D Thanks Dan!! Glad to see you back!

haha, im trying to wrap my head around this EMS stuff.
looks like im gearing to get a burner and borrow a wideband
thats flattering though, the turboedit creator remembers my old setup 8)

Sikocivic - the loading up you describe is exactly what i get as well

Hopefuly the wideband will fix our problem with that.

I have had turbo Hondas for 5 years now, and I remember your old setup.

Turbodan, if you have a burner i may have something for you in the form of a binary file that i used on my old ZC (a9 w/e) but as far as i remember the maps needed leaning out so much it scared me when i was on the rollers

the chip that i used to test out what the old chip that you sent me a while back.
it had the old maps to it, it was the one that you dyno tuned.

would you be able to send me the bin file for that? i have the chip, but if i have the bin file it might be easier to modify.
you can email it to me if you want
