need help with a sr20

i know a guy with a 240 that has a red top sr20 in it and he is running a turbonetics 60-1 turbo, front mount intercooler and greddy intake manifold doing an afc hack...it runs good but he started messing with the timing in it and my question is two local shops told him to fully advance the timing in it for the most power and to get it to run better...well ever since he advanced the timing alittle the car has started bogging down on him and dying. should we try to set it back to stock? i always thought with boost you wanted to retard the timing...he has ems for it but doesn't have the money to tune it just yet so for now he will be running the afc hack. we just want to get it running good to where it doesn't bog down on him anymore.

a basemap on the ems would be better than the afchack

not for long.

if he's running the true afc hack (larger inj w/ afc large negative corrections) his timing is going to be really advanced already=boom!
