Need help by this friday or the world will be doomed
Cliffs notes: virgin p28 runs like ass but throws no CEL. Chipped p28 with stock z6 map runs great but throws a solid CEL.
So I have this crx I bought recently. It was turbocharged in the past because there's still a working boost and afr gauge installed, as well as cutouts in the lower crossmember where I'm guessing a turbo used to reside. Then the last owner got it, replaced the block with a z6 and head with a y8. He was running a virgin p28, but gave me a chipped p28 along with it. The virgin p28 ran like ----, boggy, hard to accelerate, but no CEL. He said it was a virgin ecu, but I don't know for sure because the ------- screws are on there so tight I stripped some screwdrivers and the screws trying to get it off. So I burned a stock z6 map to the chipped p28, installed, and it runs great...but there's a solid CEL. I've jumped the service connector, stays solid. WTF? I want to turbo this weekend so help me with this please. |
Re: Need help by this friday or the world will be doomed
if he says it was a virgin ecu ...the screws should be tight right? I mean all virgins are tight to start off....lol. So the virgin p28 ran like ---- and the chipped p28 with your bin ran great...with a solid CEL? Maybe its ecu problems...find another virgin p28 or chipped and see if that goes away. Solid CEL usually means the car is in limp mode. However I don't understand why your car would run great in limp mode.

I'm wondering if the checksum was removed in the map I was using. I'm guessing not. So I'm going to reburn it and try tomorrow. However, if anyone has ideas go ahead and post just in case.

Now ------- Willem won't work, but it did ---- my chip up. Tried to remove checksum last night, willem wasn't working, so put chip back in car. Now car runs in limp mode. Willem still doesn't ------- run and I'm an hour late for work. Yesterday someone put nails in my tire before work. I hate myself

I've never had any problems with my Willem outside of the ones I created myself lol i.e. user stupidity. What seems to be the problem with the willem, maybe I can help with that. Oh, on a sidenote...if you're using SST chips in your willem, make sure to erase them twice. For some reason I noticed my willem says it erased the chip but when you do a blank test it comes up with info still on there.

But like I said, doubt it's the willem (or me). I downloaded some software to unlock the phones I have. It wouldn't run, said anti-virus had to be disabled. Disabled, wouldn't run. Uninstalled it, and it runs. But now willem doesn't and there's no virus because I searched. I get the "cannot find DriverLYNX driver" or something like that, even though it's in sytem32 and where willem is running. I made sure everything had administrator access, tried a ton of different settings, fucked with the port in the BIOS, etc to no avail. So I'm reinstalling winblows. |
Re: Need help by this friday or the world will be doomed
CEL for ECU failure can mean anything. I had one last week when I was trying to get my car running and it pulled strong, all the way to redline, with only sputtering as low speeds trying to keep a constant speed (this was due to a melted IAT). I never had limp mode, no huge backfiring or detonation or anything, it ran like it should just with ECU failure coming up. I fixed it, but it ran just like it did before aside from the constant low speed thing. My guess would be the solid CEL is from an IACV part of the board, or something else that doesn't matter anyway if the car runs great.
My vote... chip the virgin. That's what I did. Converted a virgin P06 board to P28 and chipped it, runs like a champ with no CEL's. |
Re: Need help by this friday or the world will be doomed
I might try that, if I can figure out how to get this cover off. The screws are literally way too ------- tight. I reburned a chip with the checksum crap removed, still gave solid cel. So, I'm going to try the new ECU.
