my thoughts on afc verses ignition hack
 

was going to use the s-afc from apex and 450 dsm's. after i have the dsm's in and running then set the igntion timing with the distributor. this should set ur timing. correct? then add the msd BTM so that when it sees boost it retards the timing more. so that way at cruise the timing is correct and under boost the msd is retarding the timing correctly. just my thoughts please tell me if i am wrong. wow if what your sayin can be done then i am one happy camper. I was not sure you could retard your timing while at cruise. I would love to know if this can be done becasue the cash will be on its way for an afc and 450's!!

This was already talkes about.
You can only retard it at the dizzy so far I would say max 2 degrees, or you will get real shitty idling and low end power. and the thing is the BTM retards a given value for every pound of boost.
The problem with this is that with the AFC hack is advanced a lot at the beginning of boosting at 3-4 psi there it is 10 degrees more advanced than at WOT so do the math.
-2 degrees that would be only 8 degrees more advanced and minus 4 times .5 degrees with the BTM that will be 6 degrees more advance.
You will still have more advanced timing at low boost. And after that at higher boost the timing drops back to normal WOT timing.
The problem isn't at higher boost, it's at lower boost, that's why the BTM will not be able to fix this problem.
But what are you guys worrying about a lot of people use the AFC hack as is....just give the car some more juice than usual at lower boost.

Yeah I think people are way too worried about this. If you use the btm with the safc and dsm's and you turn the initial timing back about 2 degrees and run good gas you will be fine. I don't even have the btm and I am fine. The whole reasoning behind the btm is to avoid detonation from boost. If you take all the other precautions you should be fine. Also get yourself some colder plugs.
