ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

... and can/will put their money where their mouth is?

a friend just linked me to this thread :

http://www.msextra.com/viewtopic.php?p=176869#176869

Jean is looking to make a new board to house a ms2 processor at a very low price (35 us or so) that will talk through can network to another ms2 chip and share the load.

this means shift lights tachos etc etc etc can be driven by an external board taking away the impediment to using lots of pins for fuel and ignition.

in a nutshell, sequential fuel and cop with enough io.

jean has written sequential code for his siamese mini engines, sooner or later that will be main stream and will mean beautiful running with huge injectors and large boost on small engines.

if you are willing to put your name forward to buy one, please post and say so. serious people only. have a look at his site. he already makes p&h drivers and other nifty things. good quality stuff.

hes agreed to design it already. 6 people appear interested so far, if you are also keen, the number he specced for production is 10. this would be a bare board with no components. you will need a ms2 card for it (in addition to the one running your engine) and the componentry on it on top of the price of the board.

for the hard core diyer like me, its a very good thing :-)

Very neat that this is being offered. I'd definitely be on this if I didn't own a Honda.

yeah, fingers crossed that he puts it together. it would be a nice little resource.

you should check out his p&h boards though, cheap enough and good. with a little advice from the man himself they could be made to work with any ecu. there are plans afoot for such a box. beats shitty resistor boxs that make the low imp resistors perform worse than the high ones.

the guy was nice enough to link us to a prototyping site that makes ms2 compatible boards. very nice boards. would piss of the ms creators quite a lot, but the increase in IO and speed and just a little porting of code to swap platforms and a basic board layout with the necessary circuits and you would have a rather mean ecu with cop, sequential, for whatever cylinder count you wanted, with all the extra features that you want etc etc etc. custom code to make it do things that you want FTW!! :-)

how sweet is that??

makes me want to get eagle pcb layout working right now :-)

Re: ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

The news on this is bad news.

Bruce Bowling, half of MS vetoed the production of that board. I find this pretty ---- really. A lot of people were interested in it, and he said no. Why? To ensure his GPIO product sells well instead.

I consider this an unfair playing platform. The megasquirt brand has drifted away from whats its roots are/were and into $$ sales games with prebuilt smd ---- that anyone can buy/install. They are no longer catering for the hardcore enthusiast such as myself and a significant number of others.

To this end, I am going to do something about it! I'm a qualified software dev with a SOLID understanding of electronics. It occured to me the other day that there is absolutely nothing stopping me from creating my own EMS from scratch, board, software, the lot.

I'll be posting about this as soon as its ready for public consumption.

Watch this space.

I'm going to pick one up for my Rx-7 some time soon, at least so I can see what you were complaining about. ;)

My friend's old Jetta was using one, we only got a base tune done as it had a leak at the IM gasket that plagued us for a while. Ended up crashing the thing and pulling out the motor.

He's gonna make a sandrail now. ;D

Re: ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

make sure you pick up an ms2 / v3.0 thats the only one that you should be trying to use on a high output FI engine.

dont get me wrong man, i'm not complaining, i couldnt have done what i did when i did it without ms and james and ken particularly.

but the politics REALLY suck, and that i cant live with, so i'm leaving the pack ;-)

pm me if you can keep a secret and i'll fill you in.

sounds great.. good luck with the project, keep me informed..

I'm going to be working on a patent pretty soon myself, so I may call upon some of your electronics knowledge for the solenoid.

Re: ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

they veto it cause that sequencer is comming out?

Re: ms2 users present and future, who wants more io??

Nah, it wouldn't have competed with the sequencer, but it would have trounced the GPIO board simply by actually being GP and not transIO. It would've been cheaper and smaller and had the same core functionality.

Anyway, thats history.

The sequencer and code for it has gone through another board spin... lol. as radiohead said "no alarms and no surprises please"

I no longer care. I am neck deep in C code and chip spec docs and will have some basic stuff to show for it soon.

I'll post here when I have the website up and the basics working and the forum backed up. Not sure why, but I don't trust all hmt readers to not hack my shiney new site! So, backups first, links second.

2008, gpio still not released for sale
2008, no ums
2008, no router board
2008, no ms3 unit

summary, too slow, too ------- bad.

This could be an option in the medium to long term. Worth a look if this thread caught your eye for sure!
