More tuning q's!

okay so i have all my previous problems ironed out. the car is running good and all is good. i have tuned most of the a\f's to be around 13.5 under load (im still n/a) the one thing that perplexes me is my cruising a/f. i cant get it to be around 14.7! i have tried leaning out the colums that i think would alter crusing a/f's and i dont think im doin it right! right now im in the 11's and my gas mileage sucks!

so what colums do i tune for freeway cruising? i keep thinking it should be like the first 3 colums..is that not right? when i give it about 1/2 throttle my af's go to around 13.5 but when im jsut crusing its around 11. normal driving, idle, full throttle all is good just crusing sucks! oh yea i have the o2 disabled if that makes a difference.

Load (MAP) changes very quickly depending on throttle position. Depending on if you're OBD0, or OBD1, column "numbers" won't really help you. What you need to pay attention to is the MAP values at the top of each column.

Here is where a boost gauge would help you if you don't have datalog (yes, I know you're NA). With the gauge, you'd be able to read the general vacuum that you pull (inHg.. if you're OBD1 just convert that number to millibar) and adjust the proper columns.

But, for now, try editing between 7-12inHg in the respective RPMs that you cruise.. Generally, you cruise around 10inHg.

cool thanks, im obd1. i have a boost gauge in the car (i know im a ricer!) but havent hooked it up yet cause im not boosted at the moment. i actually was thinking about doin that last night. damn i need a laptop!!

whats the conversion to millibar?

so yea the colums that i was refering to are the 1st 3 colums in uberdata
24.70 in/hg
22.24 in/hg
19.82 in/hg

so your saying that i need to adjust the colums around 7-12 huh? that explains why i havent had any luck changing my a/f when cruising. i didnt think that there was that much load when just cruising down the freeway. anyways i will do it again tonight and see what happens thanks again!

When I was your age.. we didn't have those fancy-schmancy computer do-dads to tell us what the hell to do with a motor. You had to feel it in ur gut, son, know what I mean? Yu had listen 'er purr, let 'er tell you what she needed, then you gave it to her. You do 'er right, she'll do you right.

Now you kids got these damn new fangled computer do-hickeys that do all of the work for you. You know ---- about cars anymore, just let your computer drive it. Damn dataloggin's fer pussies!

thats funny ---- ^ right there!

not datalogging cause i dont have a damn laptop! i could do it with the lm1 but i dont have the rpm inverter! peanut butter...no bread...cereal...no milk. story of my life!

anywyas i did some tweekin last night and i can say that she runs pretty damn good now. i still need to do some minor changes, i didnt have a bunch of time last night (cruising on the freeway im at like 14.2 to 13.8) but in general im in the ballpark and i now know what i need to change to get where i want to be.

Yeah..yeah?? Well when I was a young buck getting into all the new fangled goodness, I would ride my car around and write things down on a piece of paper as I drove. "Um 2300 rpms, 12 InHg, 12.3 Afrs - 2600 rpms, 18 InHg, 11.7 AFRs" Pick a couple spots and run home. Run up into my apartment, doing some calculations and make some changes.

Then came things like datalogging and the Ostrich...goody goodness. Yum Yum O0

Plus my vac/boost guage sucked and no one actually knew if the column headings were correct (cough, they werent) so i was shooting blanks in the dark most times :)
