Default Megasquirt

Has anyone on here used, or know of anyone that has used megasquirt on a car?

I'm thinking of swapping my carbs for fuel injection but dont want the hassle of all of the wiring changes, could i use the megasquirt to save a lot of time?

Chris - ive been posting about this in the hybrid/tech forum, you replied a couple of times, i took into accont what you said about the dash harness and the engine harness and how you thought it would be a waste of time and i came up with this option, for $160 or so i can get the megasquirt, then all i gotta do is stick on the intake manifold and the injectors, with the few sensor that you get with it also a fuel pump and hey presto, i get all the benefits of a fully programable ECU, fuel injection and i dont even have to ---- about with either of the wiring harnesses (well maybe a little)

Although all this seems too good to be true for the price hence me asking for opinions, who thinks this wont work and why?

THis part sounds the most promising and uplifting for those kinda scared of a standalone setup

What You Do NOT Need

Programming skills. The assembly language software is already written and loaded, and the tuning interface is through a straightforward Windows application. You can, of course, conceive, write and load you own code if you wish.
PROM burner to make tuning changes. A serial port connection allows adjustment of all the tuning parameters. Software updates are up-loadable through the serial connection as well.
Advanced electronic skills. If you can solder and follow directions, or are willing to learn, you should be able to successfully assemble MegaSquirt. You do not need to know what each and every component does, as there is a comprehensive assembly guide to walk you through the entire assembly and testing process.
Latest laptop computer. In fact, newer computer often do not have the serial port that is needed to communicate with MegaSquirt (instead they have USB ports). USB/Serial adapters can be used, but an older laptop is very cheap, and often a better solution. You may want a faster computer for processing data logs with MSTweak3000, but these can be done separately on a faster desktop machine.

Sorry I'm a little late on the thread.

I'm using it right now on my 4afe Celica, it kicks ***.

For 180 bucks, I bought Megasquirt and the Stimulator (which tests megasquirt). Glensgarage.com is a good place to source it all, they package everything and lable it, very convenient. I spent about 6-7 hours soldering everything, startging with the stimulator. It was my first time soldering a board before, so I wanted to be extra careful.

It's very simple to create a pigtail, you basically hook up injectors, tps, coolant temp, air temp, and a vaccum line from your intake manifold, right into the built in 2.5 bar map sensor.

I then bought a cheap 100 dollar laptop to tune with, and it functions perfectly. Very easy to tune, you just set your constants, and info about your engine, and it automatically maps ---- out for you using the Ideal Gas Law and constant we all learned about in highschool chemistry.

Overall, I believe for those that don't want to run Uberdata or something similar, or can't, it's definately a good start. If you have any questions, PM me of AOL IM me Snafubmx234. Peace

-Colin

Oh, and PS.

I've never worked or tuned anything in my life, this was my first time I've ever hacked up my ecu harness, first time I've ever soldered, and everything functions perfectly. No reason to be scared at all.
