MEGASQUIRT 2 v3 Need help firing up my bimmer

The unit is done thanks to mostly tim, somewhat ben, somewhat yuriy...
It appears to be working, flashed the ECU and MT with the freshest ms2extra beta, crank timing seems to be right since it cranks and sounds healthy but it will not fire. Here are a couple basemaps attached, if anyone can make sense of them. 2.5l motor, about 17.5 pound injectors... If anyone has ideas, or some steps for me to go through for trouble shooting. Going to check for spark (bitch with my COP, and check fuel at injectors, also bitch). And I wanted to figure out how to use the "output test" option. |

Pull a plug and see if it's wet. Check for spark. If you have spark and a dry plug then spray some brake clean or carb clean down the TB and see if it fires. If does without backfiring or bucking then start playing with the required fuel and crank enrichments. If it bucks or does nothing then start playing with your trigger setings.

Yup, I realized I am a tard and I can just pull the coil and put a spare plug in it and check for spark that way. Should I pull a fuel injector and see if it sprays, or just check a plug to see if it's wet? only got <1hour to play with it but ill try to make the most of it.

You should ALWAYS put a timing light on a new install, there are multiple things to check for. Saying "someone else with exactly the same setup used these settings and it worked" doesn't cut it really. It's still a risk if you don't check it yourself with a light.
Things to verify before adding fuel : Spark is firing at the right angle (on all cylinder pairs if you are wasted spark, and all coils if you are COP. Things to check after you add fuel and it runs : Angle remains consistent when you rev it etc. I would start lean and increase req fuel until it kicks. MS2Extra doesn't have phase control, so if you are COP pure mode, you might be 360 degrees out for all cylinders. This happened to me when I did my setup (perfectly by the book). But it was exactly reversed. Others have had the same issues... Good luck |

------- megasquirt. Still does nothing but turn over and fart, but I have not checked anything throughly due to time constraints besides the f*** TPS. With stock ECU in, I get 4.66 volts between ground and +5v, and a variable of .3-4.3 or something on the signal. Perfect.
Same at the harness. Plug in the megasquirt = 4.66v at harness on both ends, and AT TPS!! WTF!! I ran the wires straight from the TPS to the megasquirt, same thing. Can't see where on the megasquirt the signal is crossing or something. Gay ----. Have a couple grounds I need to solder tighter, and go over the board for the nth time. |

OEM looms from all makes and models always ---- up ms installs. the grounding schemes are NOT compatible. the headaches this causes... are endless. glad you found it. may this thread be a lesson to others. |

So should one build a dedicated harness from megasquirt to all the components thereby bypassing the oem one completely???

If you can, that would make ---- even easier. I just did it so that when I finish, I pop the hood and all people see is the stock ECU box plugged into the harness. Something goes wrong, I pull it, pop in the factory ECU and I'm on the road again. Convenience ftw.
Need to get my ------- LC1 working right, I've wired up these things in three cars and this one has been the most retarded. Refuses to calibrate, hope i didnt get a DOA sensor. |

i might still get one of those adapter boards that guy on bimmerforums is having made, if i understand right, i still need to gut a stock ecu for the connector but then its just solder the connector to the adapter board and plug MS in

got the LC1 working, needed better power source. ::)
Now to figure out which wire to kill power at so my MS doesnt keep my main relay CONSTANTLY ON :1 lol I put a switch inline with +12v wire and it kills the MS but leaves the ------- main relay permanatly on. I made a 3 prong plug to turn the relay on and off but thats kinda gay lol. Gave up at least temporarily on the retarded PWM idle board, going to rip it out and sell it, gapped throttle body = ftw for me. |

yuriy i made you an appt for thursday at 6 for your tires/stems. youll have to go buy the stems yourself, as they do not carry them, and i don't know if subie/bmw rims will fit metal tire valves

is your TPS really THAT noisey? beware that the innovate ground for hte heater is noisey as all hell, that needs to be separate run to the good ground point or you will ---- up your ms ground.

yuriys car is all done outside of figuring out the ms. bmw's are a bitch to do a trans/clutch on a centerpost crosslift.
