map richening question

ok so I have a question about richening a map and cranking up my boost
the map I have is tuned for about 11.5 - af ratio im running 10 psi
I want to try running 13 psi
can I just richen the map and crank up my boost (if so is there a rule of thumb of how much % I have to richen per psi) or do I have to ---- with something else

im also wondering if I retard my timing and crank up the boost will that affect my idle and how my car runs or will I be able to squeeze a couple of horse power out of it (id try this my self but its raining and all I do is spin tires)

my set up is a d15b7, 14b, 450 cc injectors 10psi at the moment

search still dosent work

Re: map richening question

k thx
is there any thing I can do to my map or do I have to get a new one

Re: map richening question

you dont just "get a new map" you have to retune.

Re: map richening question

I know that
but if I crank up the fuel in the 11 psi column then technically I could run more boost at WOT
I can borrow a y-band from a buddy to check af ratio

oh and I meant the timing retard in the distributor not map

the hole point of this is im doing a z6 swap during x-mas and I want to ---- around with the map and learn how to tune/crank up boost on this engine
that way if I blow it or ---- something up I wont care too much it will just be a bitch to get to work

Re: map richening question

what is a y-band?

get a WIDEband, then you can start tuning. or if you wana be a crazy ------, go ahead and make changes in the dark.

Re: map richening question

I think what he is saying that he wants to run boost past the stock MAP sensor's reading ability, and he wants to richen the max boost settings because he thinks the settings will carry over into the next boost columns....

Doesn't work like that....if you boost past the 11psi column then you can set anouther column to run everything 11+.
I assume you are using crome? You may want to look into using a GM map if you are going 13+ for any length of time.

Re: map richening question

yep, get 3 bar map ... and if you up boost just try to get a good AF to all maps... that's what a tuner try to get when tune a car.. to get a very good AF runing to a very good timing :l

Re: map richening question

im using uberdata
yes thats what I wanted to do
and my bad I meant WIDE BAND

ok so if I go to 2 bar and the column goes up to 14.7 psi will that be enough
should I richen it or just try it?

Walter 11-12-2006 03:32 PM

Re: map richening question

as far as i know .. runing with 2.5bar map .. you would can to tune it up to around 20-22 psi

Re: map richening question

ya im not looking to blow my engine
iv been playing around with the map and it looks as if it leans it self out when I change it to 2 bar from 1.75
dose any one have any experience doing this?

Re: map richening question

D15b7, its not really worth it for you to go through all that for the extra few hp that the bottom end probably wont like anyway.

Re: map richening question

ya well like I mentioned I just wanted to learn on this engine since I dont care too much about it
just need it to get me to work and back for the next month

Re: map richening question

then i would stay where you are. wait till you are ready to do the swap before turning up the boost. 10psi on a stock d doesnt last too long

Re: map richening question

ya ok...
ill leave it for now

iv got a ? on ur b7 did u upgrade any internals because im about to boost mine with about the same setup your using and im wondering how long it will last with 7lbs on a good tune

Re: map richening question

if you are only going to 13 psi, and you have the motor to blow...here is what you do.

leave your stock map on there with your current tune

for every PSI you are upping the boost, take the last TWO boost columns and up them 9% for every PSI increase. So if you are going from 11 psi to 13 psi, add 18% or multiply those numbers by 1.18.

for every PSI you are upping the boost, take out ONE degree of timing for safety in those same last two columns

the map sensor wont be able to read that high, and then OF COURSE double check with a wideband, these are just recommendations

if you want to do it RIGHT, get a GM 2 Bar or Motorola 2.5 Bar Map sensor and retune properly

my budy sead my boost guage looks off at idel so i got a new one and what do you know it was

thx for the tip but we actualy got snow so i dought if ill have a chance to try it
