Manifold glows red while running Rich??
My buddy just got his setup done it's a 93 prelude h23, td05 turbo, jonny racecar fmic, vafc hack, and msd 6 btm.
Well the first problem was too much boost. So he got a t3 wastegate from a chrysler, that was supposed to open around 4psi, and we checked that with a boost pump. But the car still made around 10 psi at higher rpms, and was hitting fuel cutout ie the ecu was seeing boost. so the only way to limit the boost to around 5-6 psi has the wastegate open at idle, so now it spools slow as hell. But we can deal with that when he gets cash for an external wastegate. But what I don't understand is his a/f gauge is reading pretty rich (I know they're not perfect) but after about 6-7 minutes of moderately hard driving, the manifold (log style) and turbo center section is glowing red. I thought that meant you were way lean. Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. thnaks Cullen |

wow thanks that could be it because he has base timing all the way retarted and the btm at 3degress per psi. plus we know the hack fucks your timing.

I know uberdata would be better but he started this project before all the free fm programs were out, so he had the VAFC, and we're trying to keep it as cheap as possible at this point.
And I used the hack on my 91 hatch with a b16 and it worked great but I had someone burn me a chip with the ignition tables offset so they weren't Stupid and offset like the hack makes them. I know there are better ways but there are plentey of people that have got the hack to work with great results. again thanks for the help so far. |

Set the Distributer(sp) back to stock and put the BTM to 1 degree per lb of boost, that is still very conservative.
The EGT's must be rediculously high with that much retard :O Matt |

a BTM does nothing for the Hack's advance during transistion where most of the Hack's wrath takes place.
Retard base 3-4 degress and set the BTM to maybe .5 or 1 degree per PSI if you must stay with the Hack you will be sluggish off-boost but thats just the price you pay for saving your pistons from some of the devastating effects of the Hack. |
