Making my own USB datalogging cable, How?

Just wondering how hard would it be to make my own USB data cable? Is there a certain cable I need? I already have a USB data logging cable but Im intereted in how hard it'ld be to make a longer one. I have like 5 USB cables laying around and would like to make use of them. Do I just cut into and use the white black and green wires? Ive also heard to use the orange, red, and brown??? Do I just run the same drivers off of Chris's page???

If you have a datalogging cable you can just extend the wires. What is the question? To make your own you will need a cable that has a controller in it. Like a cell phone cable. They you just find the RX,TX and ground wires.

Yeah...you cant just use any USB cable you have laying around the house. It needs to have some sort of TTL convertor in it...
