Actually, what I was trying to impress upon him is that its not all smoke and mirrors like HT makes it out be. You just gotta sit down, read all of PGMFI.org, all of T.O.O. forum (rip), perhaps a book if thats your thing, and then spend many hrs ------- around w/ your car to see what really happens w/ your own eyes. Dont believe anything you read on a forum unless you are familiar w/ the author. Read all of JD's posts accross multiple boards to gain an appreciation for how things work in the real world, and the benefits of logical, no bullshit problem solving. I could think of a few other guys that would be worth reading up on their old posts, but JD can retain a reader w/ trailer park humor and ruling idiots w/ an iron fist. hahah
To the original poster, buy a wideband, make a stethoscope, and download a ---- ton of maps from Xenocronics site and find one that works the best. Then take the plunge and start your own piston collection. You wont regret it

Look at it it has one ic, a cap, a resistor, a bunch of LEDs, 3 wires, and some other little thing on it. all traces are very visible. It says nothing of about using a wideband sensor, controling a wideband, or data output. Just another light show. We all wouldn't be paying $100-$200 for a wideband if it was that easy.
Think about it this way: if you're just gonna go by the seat of your pants, you either
1.know enough about how engines run to read plugs (or whatever you do) etc to tell if you're running lean/ rich and get a rough tune, or
2.your engine will run shitty and you'll be on here asking us why. we won't be able to tell you, and you'll get flamed and also blow up your engine real fast. Now you'll be needing to buy a new engine and start over.

Now? What are you talking about it's what he's always been doing!
Here's what I'm going to do. Buy a 14point7 wideband controller, then the Bosch sensor from Amazon. ---- the plug and grommets and ---- from 1stvwparts I'm not paying ------- dealer freight of $9 for$11 worth of parts, that ---- is getting soldered right to my wire leads. Then I'm going to buy a cheap radioshack multimeter (or use my gf's dad's pimp multimeter) and use that ---- to tell me the voltage output, and thus the afr. Then I'm going to sit and smile on my $120 wideband setup and figure out how to make my ------- detcans work. Detcans are another thing you should probably invest in. Somewhere down the line I'll get an egt gauge maybe or make one from a thermocouple and a second volemeter or something. I don't know, but detcans will help with timing.
