LM1 possible problem

Ok, I got a wideband, so you can quit bitching at me. Now I'm having problems with the wideband.
I just got this LM-1 a couple days ago, it was used in a previous person's car for 1 month. I got it all hooked up, it calibrated to 20.9. When I started the car it stayed at 20.9, after a minute it slowly dropped to 19.0. The car idles fine (even smells a little rich), and I couldn't hear any detonation. Now comes the part of the question that I will get flamed for. With the wideband reading 19.0 shouldn't the narrowband spike lean (I'm not using the narrowband for tuning, it just makes sense to me that it should)? With the idle sounding/feeling/smelling slightly rich and the narrowband staying at all the way rich should I assume that the actual WBo2 sensor is shot? Should I just wait until I get my ostrich and richen it up and see what happens? Please help. Now for those of you who see the word "narrowband" this is for you: I AM NOT USING THE NARROWBAND FOR TUNING, I AM JUST USING IT AS A REFRENCE TO SEE IF MY WIDEBAND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: LM1 possible problem

try recalibrating it.

were you checking just the idle, or did you hit the gas a couple of times to see if the reading changed?

oops sorry, it was at idle in neutral. I revved it slightly a couple times but nothing changed (i think, this was last night).

Re: LM1 possible problem

did it go through the countdown calibration and the warmup? there is an option to have it read a different sensor, it might be set up for that. check what sensor you have and then hook up the LM-1 to your computer and use the software to check which it is set up for.

Re: LM1 possible problem

Yep it counted calibration and went throught a warmup. I'll try checking the sensor tonight when I get home.

Well, now it is reading 69ish ---- that. I still have to check and make sure the sensor is correct.

EDIT: How can I tell the difference between the bosch lsu 4.2 and the ntk lh1?

Re: LM1 possible problem

Sounds like the sensor is dead. Go to VW and pick up a new sensor and see if that helps. Otherwise you can read the instruction manual to check which sensor your unit is set up for.

Checked WB, it is set up for the right sensor. went to buy a new one, 3 different stores 3 different prices (checker, autozone, advanced), $260, $270, $280. Napa-"ummm, under $40 but we won't be able to get one for at least a month." I'll check the VW dealer tomorrow, if it is reasonable I'm getting it.

You can buy a new O2 senser from Innovate for $79 ;)

Well, lets see, when you calibrate the LM-1 it has to be a FREE AIR CALIBRATION

Let me guess, you installed the WB in a car that had just be running or you waited to calibrate the sensor just after starting the car, letting it run and the O2 to warm up???

If you FREE AIR CALIBRATE the sensor in an exhaust path that is full of fumes, you are telling the sensor that is 20.9% Oxygen...
