limp mode! help

ok, i bought a spare p28 to chip (in case i fucked up chipping, and im assuming i did). i just got my moates today and burned a rom from zenocrons website for a stock d15 with a z6 head yadda yadda yadaa. so it started and went into limp mode. im assuming i messed up chipping it? or could anything else cause the car to run in limp mode? during desoldering i did use a little too much heat to get out some of the stuck holes that had solder stuck in the middle of them. 2 of the pads were pretty beat, but it looked like there was still a good connection after re-soldering. HELP! im trying to sell the stock ecu so i can buy my jrc and install the ------- turbo! its about time.

Re: limp mode! help

It's going to be tough to figure out but just use process of elimination. Go back and re-burn a chip. Make sure you do it right and everything goes well. While your at it take time to look at the work done to the ecu. Look for any cold solder joints, not enough solder, too much solder, lifted traces, bad hardware, burn marks... Anything, and fix it if you find something. What makes you think it's in limp mode? Just want to make sure thats what's up.
Also, why did you use a basemap from Zebracrons website? Why not use Uberdata to make your own? In some cases you might be better off that way. I particularly don't like trying someone else's basemap unless I really need to but thats just me. Chances are you'll need to change or fix something with someone else's basemap your running in your car, so it might be best to learn to use the program so you will be able to take care of anything you may need to edit.

Re: limp mode! help

the car wont rev past 4k. hits a limiter. from my understanding thats the ecu going to limp mode. i dont really have much skill at soldering. thats why i bought a spare instead of using my stock one. i dont know what cold solder is, but soldering back in was the easy part. they all look fine, my zif socket sits a little croocked because the masking tape i used to hold it to the board to solder was more to one side of the chip, but for the most part, all of the soldered connections look great. but like i said, during desoldering, i had to switch iorns from an adjustable weller to a regular one (because it had a really pointy tip for some of the holes that had solder stuck in the middle) well it got a little hot and 2 pads burned up a little. it seemed like after soldering that it would be ok. i just wanted to know if the problem lies in chipping or if it could be anything else, because now im gonna have to try again on the stocker. i used a program from zenocrons site because the link for the stock p28 one from uberdata didnt work. (the turbo isnt on yet) i have a much better understanding of tuning and programming than soldering and de soldering. i just wanted to see if the car would start and run ok. thanx for the help though
