LC-1 logging cable - serial only. Can I convert to USB?

Hey, I've got an LC-1 wideband controller and there is an output for a serial port. The problem is my laptop doesn't have a Serial port. From the LC-1 it looks like an audio style jack, then there is a cable from that to serial. I was wondering if 1 of the following three (if any) is possible:

1) there is such a cord that will plug into that audio style jack and be USB on the other end
2) I can convert from Serial to USB
3) I can add a serial port in the expansion slot on my laptop.

Now, I'm not sure what the differences between the USB and Serial interfaces are, but I think it may have something to do with USB communicates 2 ways while serial only has 1 (something like that). Is there anything I can do to make this work?

EDIT: I just thought of something... I should add that I have a USB logging cable from the ECU, which I was also wondering would work for recording the LC-1's AFRs (since the LC-1 is hooked up to the ECU).

Any local computer store will have serial to USB conversion cables. That's what I'm running, no issues.
