I'm so confused!
Alright I have been reading through this engine management section for awhile fut the more i read the more confused i get. The only thing I need to complete my kit in my 93 del slow, D15b7 is my fuel management. From what I read on here I have an OBD1 ECU. I was planning on just buying a chip from xenocron with a basemap already on it, but from what I read it will still need to be tuned. I dont really have much more than $100 to work with. what will I need to tune it, I have a laptop. If anyone has an idea where I could find some reading that would make some sense to me being a total newb in the fuel/engine management dept. any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Max
Oh yeah i see alot of talk about different ecu's would it be better to switch to a different ecu all together?

Re: I'm so confused!
i was going to respond but i am not an expert, however you can find out plenty of info on all this ---- by reading pgmfi.org you dirty heathen bastard.
lol. but if your not sure what you need to tune your car you prolly shouldn't try to tune it yourself, because your next post will be something like why it won't start or why it idles at 5k or some ----.
i bought a book called how to tune and modify engine management systems from amazon.com for 15 bux, its mostly about motec and aem ----, but it gets deep into the details and theory , has lots of pretty pictures too.

Re: I'm so confused!
your going to either want to get a chip and chip it urself or just buy a basemap from chris, and also by a wideband o2, then depending on if your using a basmeap or makeing your own maps just do some pulls and see where your at with the wideband then do your narrow end tuning from there, it may seem like a lot of money now but you are better off getting everything you need instead of taking chances

Re: I'm so confused!
If you oly have 100.00. DOn't turbo your car, because when you start putting parts on for the turbo, 95% of the time your gonna need something else.
My first guess at the something else would be a motor, because you only want to spen 100.00 on Engine Management. People these days think they car buy their parts, put them on the car and car it a turbo. Try playing around with tuning BEFORE you decide to go turbo. Learn when things are safer as N/A.
Spend the money on important stuff first.

Re: I'm so confused!
You can, but it's not adviced. At least if you had a burner yourself, if you hink that there was a bad spot in your map that you could change it. What happens if the maps you get don't idle and just want to stall.
This is why I always advice getting the Tuning Setup or having someone you can work with locally first. I play with N/A for 5-6months before I even bought my first turbo.

Re: I'm so confused!
The LC-1 is a cheap wideband that you can hook up to your laptop and monitor things. Then when you're ready you can purchase the baller digital XD-1 gauge or if your poor like me you can get the analog WB AFR gauge for like $60
