Ignition timming 12 or 16 deg?

I know z6 use 16 deg and y8 12 deg, but timming is managed by de ecu, so if i have a y8 with a obd1 conversion (P28) ecu what timming i have to set?

y8 = y8

If you run a Y8, you should run 12* of ignition timing at idle. Basically what I suggest for most is take a Z6(p28) map, subtract 4* everywhere, then take your timing light and make your dizzy read 12*(normally need to advance the dizzy almost all the way to accomplish this). Then for an ignition retard in boost, generally 1* per psi works pretty well. Another option is leave the dizzy where it is stock, assuming it was reading 12* with the stock ECU, and add 5* to the P28 map. Just know whatever value displayed in your rom editing program will be roughly 9.75* off.

You can't just use a stock P28 ecu on a Y8 engine. It will run like a piece of ----. Buy the P2P ECU if you want to do this swap or chip a P28 ECU and tune the car.

i learned with my last set-up that i hate th Y8. i will never run another with a chipped ecu because the timing issues. would rather run the z6 head and p28 maps.

if i remember correctly, my y8 is set to 16º timing (or slapped all the way back)...that is hpw most y8 timing maps are down. wait for jdavis to step in, withput his suggestions or y8 timing map, my car would be fucked
