idle jumping

my idle has been messed up since i chipped and boosted my car. i never really cared, but its finally getting anoying. its doing a jumping up and down, only when fully warmed. i did a little research and found that it can be air bubbles, iacv, fiv?(something like that), timing, vac leak.

first off, could no air filter cause this???
second, timing. its on a basemap now. d16z6 chipped p28 w/p30 with boost and 450's.
also, it seemed to be a little better when i had my v-afc on there, and i added fuel.
if it is timing, witch way did you usually have to go with it? (advance/retard)
any help appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting your idle air screw on the throttle body?
Where in Indiana do you live? I'm in Covington KY and I'll tune your car for you on the cheap!! If you have a chipped ecu.

if ur running crome, pull the iacv compensatin thingy down to - 15% or w/e its called u cant miss it in options.. that helpd me.. i uped it a lil to -8 because when my lights were on at night it idled a little too low.. this helpd me idk if its a correct way or not lol!

Re: idle jumping

i would, but that would be more than just buying another chip

Soimetimes P30 code can cause wierd idling sometimes. Try P72 code.

Re: idle jumping

so it could just be the code?? thats kinda wierd

OOOhhhhhhhhhh slamm1111!!!!!, Ehh that was caused by a melted vaccum line to my wg. A few hours driving around with the ostrich going and my Dave Leed style automotive stethiscope with longer hoses listenning for det. I can get it smoothed out. :6

Cool. Um well somethings ive been learning lately with tuning lots O cars is make sure you have 0 exhust leaks first get idle smooth if your using crome download xenocrons version of pgmfi it can be found in the thread xenocron explores crome timing issues. If you do search for ectune that thread will pop up.

then get cruise at 14.7 maybe play around with advancing the timing some in cruise or just off idle it helps with throttle response and then start tooning boost. In boost try to keep it around 11.5-12.0 in boost. if you made your basemap with crome and boost tools then you'll probably actualy feel Det if you go up to about 8 psi if you do just retard the timing a few degrees and it'll quit. make a det can and listen. if you retard to much you'll feel it the car will pull slower

How I do it is I'll tune my afr and smooth the map and then do it again it helps get those one or two cells that run rich or lean out that you don't really hit all the time. and it helps the car run smoother. although when youve got it about perfect you can mess up everything you just did by doing that.

If you can get an ostrich. It makes everything easier with live tuning the instant change lets you compare make changes. It really makes for better tuning.

ya, i wouldn't mind getting an ostrich. but i'm on a budget, i can still tune it the slow way. i just need to get my datalogging workin now. i'm thinkin of using freelog, just havn't soldered my dku-5 cable in yet. got a feeling setting it all up on the computer side is gonna be a bitch.

After my first time with a turbo car I decided to bite the bullet and get an Ostrich. Best investment for tuning so far besides the LC-1.

:y

As to the idle jumping, I had problems with the GM 3 Bar. Using the P30 base code, I changed the vacuum portion of the MAP scalers to match the P72 ROM. After that I just use the smoothing option to get the fuel values close to the new scaler values, and then I tuned the low load sections from there.

I tried this on my NA B17 using the P30 code as well and it seems to have eliminated the idle surging that would happen intermittently.
