I lack knowledge.....

Ok, so I am on the fence on tuning my own ---- , or getting it tuned. I have only 2 options imho here in jax for tuning, Mr Phil Stubbs said he would help a noglet out, also SpeedFab in OP CAN tune, and has tuned many a hondas as far as i Know.

That said, I am toying w the idea of tuning my own ----. I have read ALOT of crap....Phearables stuff, the how to on Moates...---- it all melts together after a while, this is why I took such a long break between High School and College...---- ---- ----... :S

Im gathering the following, and basically need a confirmation on the info for accuracy foolios...I know I need a chipped ecu, laptop and crome lol.... :y

If I am chipped p28 on crome....to tune this I would need the followng (bare min!)

-Ostrich 2.0
-Wideband o2

To DATALOG (not needed for tuning, that is what I gather) I would need

-HuLog
-Data log cable deal from Moates or Xenocron
-Crome PRO.....

Damn, I hope i did not forget anything that is crucial. If i did, that is cause I am trying to type all fast at fuggin work....

Thanks all....

You don't "need" an Ostrich running Crome. You can buy a chip burner and chips... but you have to re-burn a chip every time you make changes. Gets to be a bit of a headache.

I run a HuLog, but it's just a nice package deal. You can get the Xenocron USB data logging kit, you don't need both. One or the other.

Just get this -

Wideband, Datalogging, ostrich. Done. Pick your tuning program, throw in a gauge if you want (I have the Innovate gauge) and have Phil help you tune.

Re: I lack knowledge.....

Ahh, nice link, sad thing is i was looking around his site like "I KNOW I ------- saw that ----...."

Again, I am at work, supposed to be working, but its ------- monday.

Thanks for the reply dude! So, I can get that kit from Xeno, and without the datalogging part, I can tune based off the a/f guage I buy then and I am golden right?

I can just add Datalogging later is what I am understanding, as it is not vital to, but very helpful in tuning correct?

Go to www.------------- and take some time to look around at all his goodies. Very reputable and has been around forever. You can get whatever package you want and get something later or get it all and get a slightly better deal. With shipping you might as well get it all the first time around and not have to go back.

Re: I lack knowledge.....

wait, one more thing. Can you clarify what exactly the Ostrich does, maybe that would help me understand the process more.

I know its an emulator right? So what, it emulates a burned chip? Does that mean I leave it hooked up 24-7 until I get a new chip burned?

Maybe im TOTALLY missing that part. :l

----, tuning cant be this hard, its almost like for me, understanding what items are required to tune your car is almost more difficult than tuning itself lol. :3

I really want to learn how to do this, I know I am capable of it. Just need some direction pointing, thats all. O0

Re: I lack knowledge.....

The ostrich is having the ability to upload maps on the fly. It says plugged in 24/7. With a chip, you have to take it out of the ecu, throw it in the burner, take it out, put it back in the ecu, run it, do your thing and redo the steps until you have a decent tune. The ostrich just makes everything easier for you.

Oh not mentioning the other cool ---- you can do with it.

Re: I lack knowledge.....

I have tuned a couple setups before I had my Ostrich and they worked perfectly, but it was time consuming and a general pain to keep burning chips. Once you go Ostrich you'll never go back.

I'd recommend a chip burner too unless you want to keep the Ostrich in your car all the time. I don't keep my wideband or Ostrich in my car when I'm not tuning though, just personal preference.

Re: I lack knowledge.....

You can also tune with the ostrich and when you are done you can have them pull the map off and burn it on a chip so you no longer need it after tuning. Then you can just turn around and sell it if it no longer fits your needs at the time. Don't over analyze what I said.

Ostrich = Easier Tuning
Burn 1 = Pulling chips out to burn and reburn till your happy
Willam Burner = Super cheap but a bitch to work with.

I have had a ostrich and still have a Willam that I can sell you for $30 bucks but I might as well include a rope with it. My buddy has a burn 1 and it works just like it should. Burn1 or Ostrich now stfu.

Re: I lack knowledge.....

ok I get the ostrich thing now...i can see how that is very effective when tuning FA SHO.... :y

So, theorhetically....i could get an ostrich & wideband, and tune my a/f w that. I assume the program handles timing and such for me? Or do I need to mess with that too?

Sorry I have read and read (though I did find this, http://www.-------------/catalog/solutions.php ,which answered my ostrich ?...thanks imburne!) and this ---- is hard, there are alot of sources of information out there, and sometimes its hard to decipher what applies and what does not.

I shall STFU for now, but I am sure I will have more ??s pretty soon. The day is coming when I will need to know all of this and be decent at it.....

Who knows, maybe I will go ------- super cheap and just get a wideband w guage, and a chip burner from Xeno for 80 bux....does that spell dissaster for a noob tuner? I would think the less options for me to fawk w the better, right?

Thanks again for all the replies.
