how would this work?
i am seriously considering throwing a y8 head on my 98 y5 motor and changing the ecu as well. since my car is obd2, how would i go about chipping it? do i use an obd1 ecu and then use turboedit to reprogram the bins? how would this work?
i don't plan on doing the soldering work myself...i would feel a lot more comfortable buying a socketed ecu, but i don't mind buying a chip burner and reburning chips...i just need to know how i would work it. |

nah just throw in a y8 ecu. wiring i dont think you HAVE to solder. just recommended. you can use butt connectors and elec tape the crap outta them.
for vtec oil, vtec oil-, vtec sol, and knock sensor. the only one i think would NEED soldering is the knock sensor. |

are you saying that i would need to replace the wiring harness for the ecu, or just run wires for the vtec stuff. can i use an obd1 ecu to run the obd2 engine and therefore have the ability to chip/turboedit it?

Just add the wires for vtec. If that's all you want to do then get a obd2 sohc vtec ecu and plug it in. If you want to run a obd1 computer for tuning capability, then you'll need to buy a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness, or hack the harness up yourself. Stan |

thanks for the help. i have been to pgmfi.org and i didn't really understand all the information. i get the part about soldering a socket into the ecu, and then using a chip burner to burn new bin files to an eprom, but all the real technical programming stuff is over my head.
