how much timing on a built z6
most of you know my setup, my buddy who helped me with the initial tune on my unbuilt motor was used to his y8, and runs alot less timing. I talked to him the other day and he said he was looking over some peoples crome maps and they were running way more timing than i was. I didnt put the 2.5 bar map in yet, but the 11.03 column is set to 19.65 or something. i also just saw someone elses map that was running almost 30 degrees to 8psi. i think mine is at like 22? anyone have a screenshot of a built d timing map?

30 degrees is recockulous, who ever made that map is retarded, whats your c/r? how much boost? like 9:1 c/r and under 13-14 psi i wouldnt be afaid to run like 24 degrees of timing on a built motor, as long as it has the fuel map tuned to BELOW 12:1 afr's, like 11.8:1 or so, you could get a few extra ponies with 1.5-2 more deg. of timing, but dont push it, its a shame to blow a built motor, i have done it!

Re: how much timing on a built z6
wow! my timing i belive is around 14.. My buddy tuned for free and doesnt waana be responsible for blowing my motor until i get a more knowledgeable tuner on the dyno. My setup is z6 block y 8 head. Im yielding roughly 8:1 C/R!! I just go tmy 2.5 bar and hittin the dyno soon. Is there an appx. hp per degree of timing?

Re: how much timing on a built z6
30 huh?
Thats a little much there Be overly conservative if you dont know what your doin or have one of the guys like JD do a basemap for ya and buy him a 40. |
Re: how much timing on a built z6
My D15B7 NA map only hits 37.5-40 degrees of timing at 10-11" of vacuum.........
and it's just a stock NA motor getting 40+ mpg with a close ratio tranny |
Re: how much timing on a built z6
30 degrees sounds fine on race gas :y

Re: how much timing on a built z6
Are you sure that 30* wasn't BEFORE boost retard was set? I got a map from an unmentioned "tuner" on here and it had the timing set at 29* at the top of the map. :l

Re: how much timing on a built z6
it was like 28* to 5psi. then it backed down to 24 to 20psi. I just wanted to get the turbo spooled up quicker, so i was hoping i could run mid 20's to 5-8 psi. from 10 on, i have 19.something
My cr is probably around 8.8-9:1 Running 19 psi. |

Re: how much timing on a built z6
Retarding timing causes faster spool, right until your exhaust valves glow cherry red and preignition sets in. Advancing timing focuses the burn inside the combustion chamber, until you begin the burn so early that the peak pressure occurs at a rod angle with poor leverage that the piston cant move down quickly enough (act as an expander) to keep pressures from rising and turning burn into detonation and destroying the engine. Play around between those points to find best throttle response and spool.
