Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
What's the cleanest way to interface an LC-1 to my ECU? I know this is HMT and a lot of you guys might just say to use wire nuts or some ----. But I don't like doing ---- that way.
I was thinking something modular like hooking up a connector to my conversion harness. Does anyone know where to source some nice honda looking male/female connectors. Also, does anyone know if the ECU power line can handle enough extra current to power the LC-1. Or do I have to get a dedicated 12v for it? |
Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
do you mean like permanantly hook it up or hooking it up so that it is easily removable? i just used wire taps and put male ends on the power, ground, and O2 signal from the LC-1.

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
I tried using an old wiring harness connector but I didn't have enough voltage!
But once I connected it good, my brand new LC-1 was giving more trouble codes, so I'm not sure if that was my only problem! |
Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
i used the plugs from my old power mirrors on my teg and soldered them into a 0bd 1 to obd 1 extension harness. that way i can plug and un plug it when i need to tune some one elses car. also, because i used the extension harness, i dont have cut any wires on the cutomers car

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
I tried doing a plug-n-play on my Escort. Stock sensor is 4-wire (12v heat, ground heat, signal, and signal ground). Figured the heater wires would power the LC-1 cable. It would keep on resetting and giving error codes and throwing itself into calibration mode while driving :S Rewired the power through a 10A fuse labelled "rear wiper" (sedan hahaha), and the ground to body. Works 100% now. Power supply for the stock sensor just wouldn't push the amps needed.
If this helps you avoid a stupid problem then great, if not just consider yourself .01% smarter :y |

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
I don't think I would mess with borrowing power from the ecu harness I'm not sure but that just seems like it could cause some needless problems Just splice into the cigarette lighter for 12v.

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
I wouldn't suggest the Cigarette lighter. Many Manufactures advice you against it as it is no a stable enough power supply. I tryed it once and the widebandgave an error stating the was not enough voltage.

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
Yeah your probably right about the cig lighter. How was your ground though it could have been weak.
And another thing,He could be using the cig lighter for a charger or something. Just run a line from the battery. |
Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
Chassis Ground and an accesory wire from the radio or better yet, straight from the fuse box.

I'm not gonna tie it to the cig lighter b/c that line is noisy as hell. I don't wanna screw my LC-1 with the noise or possibly induce more noise on that line. I've gotta look at the diagram again but I think the fuse box has an accessory line that I can connect to(5th gen did), I'll just use an inline fuse with that. |
Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
Just hhok it right up to the ECU, this is how mine is done and everyone else i know.

It's a fully built LS that bullys other motors. ;)

i hooked mine up to the ecu's power and ground. via an extension harness, which is obd 1 on both sides....if you you a regular jumper harness then you can not use it in diffrent obd level cars, only thoes that your jumper harness matches.

Re: Hooking up LC-1 WB. Cleanest way?
I am thinking, if we uses bullet connectors?? tap a piece of the wire to the ECU harness so that way the LC-1 can be removeable.... Although I still have to do more thinking on this matter... think it is feasible?
