Default honda igniter... Is there another solution?

I recently had a igniter go out on me again shortly after installing a MSD 6al. This seem to be a constant problem and most likely will happen even more often with an upgraded ignition sys. I have never been 100% clear on what the igniter does. Is there is a way to get rid of it and use something else such as a trigger mechanism that would connect to the magnetic pick up connection on the msd box?

instead of trying to remove the ignitor you should try removing the MSD... :1

i made nearly 400whp while reving to 9500rpms on OEM Honda ignition parts (distributor, coil, ignitor, wires, etc) im sure you can do without it too...

The reason I installed the msd 6al is because I wasen't getting complete ignition at WOT and at higher boost levels and I determined that by datalogging and playing with spark plug gap. Maybe you made that much power on a stock ignition setup but I am sure it wasen't healthy power expecially at that high of rpm.

I will try putting a brand new igniter in and see how long it lasts. Maybe I will get lucky.

It's the power you don't make when your stock ---- is not up to snuff and you don't have enough of a clue to figure it out.

Let me guess replacement ignitors from vatozone etc. Never ever trust dist parts except Honda.

Also the msd isnt causing the ignitor problems most likely some form of a short or grounding issue. Myself and most of everyone I know runs aftermarket ignitions and never do we eat through them.

I have had 2 ignitors die on me on the dyno but these were old 15 year old+ obdo b16a dist that after using used d16a6 ignitors on them both fired up and one enjoyed low 11 sec passes all motor and reving to 9600. IDRC Finals.
