high comp tunning?!
Okay i have a z6 and i stubbled across a fully built head that has also been milled. its been milled like .040. so i know that my c/r is gonna be around 10:1. my question is what kinda tunning should i be doing to get the most and be safe at the same time with this high of c/r? should i just pull some timming in the upper rpm's and make sure i have a good a/f and call it a day? eventually i will get lower comp pistons, but at least for this summer thats not an option.
so what are the do's and dont's when tunning for high comp? oh yea it will be street tuned with uber and an lm1, z6 with super 60. |
Re: high comp tunning?!
so its about 1 point higher c/r? if so i would say pull another maybe .3 deg. of timing in boost then get it on the wideband and adjust fuel from there....should be ok....

Re: high comp tunning?!
Yea thats what i was thinkin, i mean people boost b16's all day long and they are just above 10:1 so i wouldnt think that there should be anything significant to tunning a d series with 10:1 compression.

Re: high comp tunning?!
run 93 or 94 octane and just monitor for knock. It should be pretty close to being ok. Just might pull a few around MBT.

Re: high comp tunning?!
Hahahaha.. ya, 10:1 isn't really consdidered "high" compression. Throw some boost at it with some good gas.. your ignition will be fine.

Re: high comp tunning?!
wait.. shave .040"!! do you realize how much that is ? Be careful with that man, and I'd suggest a descently thick hg to run with that... it had to have been warped to ---- to shave that much...

Re: high comp tunning?!
Bah. I milled my B16 head 0.050" (for NA).. It's aggressive with my CTR pistons an RM customer cams; compresison owns your low end power needs!
..but anyway, it sounds like he has stock Z6 pistons which was pansy ass to begin with, (-10.10cc dish), Unless it's runnign some radically high lift cam.. ..he'll be fine. Boost on brothah! :D |

Re: high comp tunning?!
HiGH compression helps your low end power, (power overall, but you really feel it down low).
Cams will not effect compression. |
Re: high comp tunning?!
Yea i still have the z6 pistons as of right now. i will be upgrading but im sticking with stock compression pistons. i did mill the head to gain low end power i want something that is still responsive out of boost. the cam is the zex 593000 cam so its not too bad. i just want something that is going to flow well in the top end and be responsive in and out of boost and this set-up sounds the best on paper, i have yet to put the head on maybe next weekend. i was just worried about timing and tuning. i really dont want the head to lift and be replacing headgaskets all the time.
