Tell your friend he is a moron and kick him in the balls......twice. ;)

BTW, this is covered in the "Engine management FAQ" section 3-2. :P

Re:having some trouble

I don't know how to answer that, but the PM6 is chip compatable. It's one of the more common OBD0 ecu's to chip.

Re:having some trouble

don't quote me on this but don't you have to desolder the existing chip on the board and solder in a socket in its place on a OB0 ???

i may be wrong tho( and probly am :) )

Re:having some trouble

mahcivic,

Take the top off of the ECU, and look at the A plug socket (It's the big green one). There is a sticker on top of that too. ...does it say PM7 instead of PM6?

Also, take the bottom cover off, and try to take a couple of the 9 screws out that hold the board to the case. If they break loose easy, someone swapped boards on you.

If the board has never been removed from the case, the glue will still be attached to the screws, and it will take a little effort to get them to break loose.

Re:having some trouble

From the pgmfi.com website:

If you have a OBD0 ECU, chipping the ECU might not be such an easy option for you. Almost ALL 90-91 PM6, PM7, PR4 and PP5(with catalytic converter) ECUs had external EPROMs, and are easy to change the program on. Almost all 88-89 PG7, PM6, PM7 and 88-91 PM8 ECUs did not have an external EPROM. It is possible to chip these ECUs, but it requires considerably more work and is beyond the scope of this article. The following ECU is a PM7 that does not have an external ROM:

If you are luckier, the ECU you have will look more like this:

Unfortunately I don't know where to send you to get that info. However this paragraph does make it seem possible.

Wait maybe I do, check out this website:

http://www.mobstyle.com/index.asp?inc=hondaecu

This guy seems to have done the same thing you're doing but the article doesn't really give details. I bet you can email him to see how he did it.
