guys, can i tune my SMC myself at dyno?

I understand how my SMC works, just reduces (-%) of the fuel at each rpm level.. so i hook up my car on dyno with WIDEBAND 02 sensor and can i do it myself? do i shoot for 13 a/f ratio?

i'm asking cuz it's cheaper doing myself... what's safe a/f ratio?

Sure you can do it yourself :)
If the dyno has a wideband, just ask for a print out after each run and start making adjustments and see what happens.
12.5 is a good # to shoot for.

you said to tune it AT 12.5:1?????

Because when i send my car to the shop the try to tune it at 14.7:1 and the blow the engine.

Ok so i just look at my wideband printout and tune it close to 12 as possible?

what is the "perfect" a/f?? can anyone tell me? I heard like for N/A it's 13.5 or something and boosted is 12 or 11?

dude you need to stop spamming the board with stupid ass questions.
there is ONLY ONE PERFECTLY STOCH RATIO.
anywhere close to 12.5 is good.

lol, i'm not spamming but trying to learn.. would you like to be responsible for my motor to be blown becuase someone said to tune it at like 15 a/f ratio???

i just heard that for our boosted cars we should run a bit richer than 12.5, like 11.5 or so?

Re:guys, can i tune my SMC myself at dyno?

A bit richer would be better. At 12.5 your temperatures will be higher than anything. Setting it a little richer will allow more room for error, keep the motor cooler, and give you piece of mind.

id compensate for the margin of error the wideband can produce also. 12.3 if not 12.2 would be as far as i'd go..

14.7:1 is where you want to be tuned.

Pressure, elevation, temp, and other variables play a part to deviate you from that ratio. You use the manipulation of fuel and ignition tables to obtain 14.7:1 at your elevation, at your pressure, and at your average temp. Dyno tuning with a wideband, and datalogging will help you to see where you need to alter your fuel and ignition settings to obtain the maximum amount of power, and the proper, and safe, ratio of 14.7:1.

Not to say you are wrong, but 14.7:1? That seems kinda on the lean side to me. I wouldn't want to run the risk at that ratio. :-\

I assumed we were talking FI air/fuel here.

EF9, whatA/F did you tune your monster-D to on the dyno?

It is my understanding that 14.7 is for low load/max. effeciency cruising only; at least thats what the ECU shoots for in closed loop.
