got my plx m300 hooked up. some questions...
 

ok so today i wired up my plx m300 wbo2. pretty easy install. tap into power and ground on the ecu, run white (wb) wire to d14, then wire in the noise filtering capacitor between the ground and wb signal.

my motor is more or less stock. gsr motor, skunk2 IM, dc header, k&n air filter.

so now that ive got this setup, i open up uberdata, open up a stock gsr map. i disable closed loop, disable o2 heater, disable knock sensor and save the file. open up my willem burning software, set offset to 8000 (512 chip) and burn the .bin. i pop the chip in my ecu and turn the key to on to make sure theres no codes and that everything with the wideband works as well as datalogging it and everything. then i start the car...

heres where the trouble starts. on initial start up, the plx unit reads like 14.6ish. after about 30 seconds or so at idle, the afr gradually drops and finally plataues around 10:1. to me this seems way too rich. the engine idles rough when doing this undoubtedly from running so rich. i havent driven around or let it completely warm up all the way, but is this too rich? i mean i kinda expected it to be a little rich on startup, but this just seems way too rich, especially since its a stock map. maybe change the cold enrichment? would that help?

if it only does it when the motor is cold, then yeah, you can mess with the cold enrichment. if it does it all the time, this means you need to take some fuel out of the upper left hand corner (idle area) of the map, this is called 'tuning' ;) no seriously, basemaps tend to run fairly rich, even on a completely stock set up. since you have a wideband, chip burner, know how to use uberdata, etc. then the whole point is to be able to make these changes in order to get your tune exactly how you want it. also, i didn't see you mention if you were data logging in uberdata or just watching your plx monitor. if you're not actually data logging through uberdata, then you can actually leave close loop enabled and wire in your narrowband output from the wideband to allow the ecu to run in closed loop which will make the ecu try to keep the afr around 14.7 in low throttle and idle. try subtracting about 15% fuel in the upper left hand corner of the map, up to about 18in/hg and down to 1k rpms, then reburn it to the chip and see what the idle is at.

Same thing happened to me when i intalled mine about a week ago. After driving it a while it seemed to be fine. I think the sensor just needs a little time before its accurate. Now my problem is when i start the car the idle goes back and forth between 2000 and 2500 rpms and when the car is cold sometimes it feels like is has no power at all below 2200 rpms but it goes away when its warm.

yes i am datalogging with uberdata. im confused what you mean about the narrowband input though. i thought that was the whole reason to get a wb, so you get a more accurate reading for tuning. i mean i could do that, but wouldnt tuning with that be less accurate?

the wideband gauge will still read the correct afr, it just won't be feeding it to the ecu. basically, after you're done tuning with uberdata and you're done datalogging. you can turn closed loop back on and feed the narrowband ouput to the ecu so that the ecu will work to correct the afr while cruising. basically for a little better drivability and better gas mileage. i personally tune every single part of the map and never use closed loop, but it saves a lot of time and makes things easier if you're just getting started tuning.

well thats the way i was gonna do it, by tuning every part of the map. im just getting started getting things ready for the engine rebuild :) i mean i dont really care about tuning to perfection now, since im just gonna be rebuilding the motor to different specs. i just thought it was weird (and wondering if was cause for alarm) that the afr was so rich on idle. maybe its just a cold thing, we'll see.
