Got DSM 450s, injectors broken :(

I got my DSM 450 injectors from a member on the site, but when I opened it up, 2 of the black bottom pieces on the injector were broken/missing.

Are they needed? If it's broken/missing, can I just buy the black pieces and clip them on?

Also, who can clean and flow them for a decent amount of $?

They are fine. Those platic caps are just for protection. One of my 390s was missing it as well and it was ok.

I paid $100 at RC engineering to get mine cleaned and balanced.

I know this has been covered.

Those black pieces at the end of the injector are not necessary. Every DSM injector I have ever seen in person had cracked caps. If they are cracked too bad I just rip them off. It doesn't affect the spray pattern. Just don't drop them after you rip them off. :-X

Won't the missing black plastic affect the seal between the injector and the manifold?
I just got DSM 390's the other day and 2 of them have the black plastic thing broken.

??? Not if we're talking about the same piece? It's the piece at the very end of the injector where the fuel sprays from.

you should be fine. the cap is meant to protect the tip when installing or transporting.

I'm REALLY sorry. I'm not used to the search function on this board yet.

But thanks for helping a turbo noob and his silly questions :)

Now, how much of the stock injector seal do I have to grind off? I read in another post that someone lubed the heck out of the stock honda injector seal and jammed it in there by tightening the bolts on the fuel rail?

Only thing I'm afraid of grinding/dremeling down the seals is ovaling it out or having it not seal completely...

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

Just do it enough so the injector fits in the seal snugly outside of the manifold. When you put the seal in the manifold and then tighten the rail down, it will seal up.

Yes, that black plastic clip on the tip of the injector.

No, that won't affect any sealing between the manifold and the injector. The rubber seal does that.

I never grinded mine out.... i just lubed them up with a little grease, and then bolted the fuel rail slowly and evenly... and they fit good and tight... never had a fuel leak.

jesus, I highly recommend grinding out the stock seals than just powering them in there. It's not that difficult to grind them out with a little dremel.

^agreed. It took us 10 minutes to grind out then install the seals on the 450's when we turboed my friends hatch. Easy work.

I ordered my rings as like the del sol vtec (don't know what model that is in the states) and my injectors fit in them fine, but the rings didnt fit the manifold so I just took them to the benchgrinder and did it up in like 5 minutes, fit nicely.

yes i agree with abaz, that is crazy ---- you didnt grind them out, i couldnt have even though about putting mine in without grinding them, you musta had to beat the fuel rail on with a hammer. :P

I just shoved my 450's a little and then went in fine(b18b)and I had 2 injectors with those plastics broken and I just took off the same plastic pieces from some grey tops I had and put them on the 450's.I hear some people say they are not needed but they wre put there for some reason so I just play it safe.
