Got datacable today, not sure if it will work (Pic)

I bought this datacable on ebay, the auction said it was for the nokia phones 3200 5100 and 6100. All the datacables I've seen on intall's have had a black box doohickythingamajob in line, this one does not BUT...the usb plug is pretty big, so i'm thinking the converter is in the plug. If anyone has used this cable or has any info please let me know, also where did you read the "how to" to install it, i've found the one on pgmfi.org so I think i'll go off that. thanks

3/4 of usb devices are powered by the usb connection, the only exceptions i've seen are harddrives, zip drives and things of that sort

unless there's a TTL convertor inside the very end...you've got yourself a worthless cable.

you can use any usb cord that has a TTL convertor built into it so long as you can get the pinouts for TX, RX, and ground.

I've just ordered a nokia 6100 6200 cable and it has the black box in it (ttl converter). Mine is to replace my emanage clone cable i made last time, burned it up on accident lol. I tried with one of those cables like you have before, I couldnt get it to work though. The "converter" is in the end of that cable, but doesnt seem to do ---- :7

Re: Got datacable today, not sure if it will work (Pic)

Yeah the usb plug end is pretty big, i'm guessing the converter is in there, I used Jim Truett's instructions from pgmfi.org to install the "no name ebay cable", I followed these instructions to a T and the install is SOLID. Now I am using EcuControl 5.8.41, No matter what port I put it on i still get nothing, I also installed the driver recomended from jims post, (the one without all the nokia phone garbage). I'm not sure what any other settings are supposed to be at so I just left them alone, if you have info let me know.

Also I see some people cut jumper J12, I did not, do i need to and what does it do? could this have caused the odor of melting electrical components, I took a good whiff of my ecu and it smelled normal but I got a hint of somthing when i first plugged it in (could have been some leftover flux maybe?)

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

From what I understand the wire colors are no where near consistant between cables, on ecu control's website it says

Solder the Ground conductor to #1 pin on CN2

Solder the Receive Signal wire to #2 pin on CN2

Solder the Send Signal to #4 pin on CN2

Now my problem is......Which wire is witch? Does anyone know how to test it?

you're gonna have to get a pinout to find out the wires.

you have to install both the cable sheilding and the ground wire to the ground port.

and yes cut j12.

Try the drivers that came with your cable. Thats the only way mine works

thanks, and yes I do have the shielding connected to the black(ground) wire.

Edit: BTW what does the J12 jumper do, it must be there for some reason. I will take it out and try tho.

I got that cable to work. You need to look at this pin out.

http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nok...p_pinout.shtml

Typically known as the DKU-5

Hey thanks! This may be a breakthrough

edit: What program are you using this with, just wondering

I used it with ecu control.

Re: Got datacable today, not sure if it will work (Pic)

GRRRRRR this pos still isnt working, I now have it wired correctly, thanks to CSaddict's pin-out. I also installed the driver that came on a cd with the cable, It said the new hardware was installed correctly, after i restarted, it wont even agnowledge (beep like it normally does) when i'm plugging the usb into it. I still have yet to see ANYTHING work. I took out jumper J12. If you know what any of the settings in EcuControl are supposed to be set at let me know, I need.....

1. port and speed
2.datalog settings
3. communication settings

Also I go up the the ECU tab on the drop down menu and click OBD1-Uerdata-CromeROM.

let me know what you think, thanks.

AFlso on that pinout, Pin5 is USB VBus, do i need this attached to the ecu? u currently do not, just the ground, Rx, and Tx.

Ok so I understand that I have to reburn my chip with some datalogging? I have a willems enhanced using 29c256 chips on crome, where in crome do I find this and does anyone know how? I would really like to get this thing working soon, thank you.

Re: Got datacable today, not sure if it will work (Pic)

Ok, so I enabled the RTP or whatever the ---- it is in crome and burned a new chip, it still doesnt work, i'm on the right com port. I'm stumped, does crome need to be running or somthing, i dont know what the ---- is going on, ive tried everything i can think of

I did smell somthing the first time I tried it, is it possible i burned out the converter in the cable? It knows when i plug the cable in so I'm thinkin its still good.

anything?!?

i couldnt get the shitty nokia cable to work either. Eventually you'll give up like me and buy one from xenocron for $30
