Got datacable today, not sure if it will work (Pic)

I bought this datacable on ebay, the auction said it was for the nokia phones 3200 5100 and 6100. All the datacables I've seen on intall's have had a black box doohickythingamajob in line, this one does not BUT...the usb plug is pretty big, so i'm thinking the converter is in the plug. If anyone has used this cable or has any info please let me know, also where did you read the "how to" to install it, i've found the one on pgmfi.org so I think i'll go off that. thanks

3/4 of usb devices are powered by the usb connection, the only exceptions i've seen are harddrives, zip drives and things of that sort

unless there's a TTL convertor inside the very end...you've got yourself a worthless cable.

you can use any usb cord that has a TTL convertor built into it so long as you can get the pinouts for TX, RX, and ground.

I've just ordered a nokia 6100 6200 cable and it has the black box in it (ttl converter). Mine is to replace my emanage clone cable i made last time, burned it up on accident lol. I tried with one of those cables like you have before, I couldnt get it to work though. The "converter" is in the end of that cable, but doesnt seem to do ---- :7

Yeah the usb plug end is pretty big, i'm guessing the converter is in there, I used Jim Truett's instructions from pgmfi.org to install the "no name ebay cable", I followed these instructions to a T and the install is SOLID. Now I am using EcuControl 5.8.41, No matter what port I put it on i still get nothing, I also installed the driver recomended from jims post, (the one without all the nokia phone garbage). I'm not sure what any other settings are supposed to be at so I just left them alone, if you have info let me know.

Also I see some people cut jumper J12, I did not, do i need to and what does it do? could this have caused the odor of melting electrical components, I took a good whiff of my ecu and it smelled normal but I got a hint of somthing when i first plugged it in (could have been some leftover flux maybe?)

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

From what I understand the wire colors are no where near consistant between cables, on ecu control's website it says

Solder the Ground conductor to #1 pin on CN2

Solder the Receive Signal wire to #2 pin on CN2

Solder the Send Signal to #4 pin on CN2

Now my problem is......Which wire is witch? Does anyone know how to test it?

you're gonna have to get a pinout to find out the wires.

you have to install both the cable sheilding and the ground wire to the ground port.

and yes cut j12.
