Wagon man with a turbo:

28 pin socket EEPROM socket www.digikey.com for $6.50, part number: A347-ND

and eproms are in different places. Americansemiconductor being one of them.


I also like the idea of a sharing site... I only suggest tunes for different size turbos, vs different motors, etc... Hope it stays organized because with all these people experimenting there's going to be probably tons of tunes around.


.. and by the way.. launch control really gets an eye from people watching/hearing it... I've experimented with it some today and it's really solved my traction problem taking off. Ghettodyne needs some type of "small" sticker we can drop on our cars.. something small that makes a point, you know Everyone that wants a sticker could pay like $10 via paypal or something to Mike as a donation or something That could also help out with Mike finding a honda (CRX?)

ok im a ghettodyne newbie. but DR PEP, i asked u before about selling me a chip, and u said it was cool so i have to ask u this... how do i install the zif socket into my ecu? and also, will i EVER have to tune the car any more if i just drop the zif in with the new chip? i would want one with a 3000 rpm launch control, but how does this work? does it act like a two step? it will hold a 3000 rpm rev limit with no load on it then the limit will go away so it has the normal 7000 rpm or so rev limit like normal? i want to know if i can just solder in the zif socket, put in the chip, and never have to worry about it again (until i wanna ---- with the boost an ----). this will run my car flawlessly right?. please let me know, im VERY interested, this is about the only thing i dont understand yes about hondas. thanks alot for reading this long *** post.

Well, it's a little complicated, but not really...

Take the covers off the ECU on both sides and located the 28pin rom chip. Under my turbo setup, it's circled in RED.. make sure you get the right one. You have to be real careful, but you can heat up the legs with an iron (solder iron).. for like 2-3 secs and you can suck the solder off with a solder sucker. It's a simple plastic thing with a spring that sucks the solder into a chamber and removes it off the leg that you heated up... takes a few tries but it works great, and you do this to all 28 pins (legs). Once all the solder is removed, the stock rom chip will come off with little force, and clean the board up a little. Drop the ZIF in, and solder it in from the back side of the board. It takes careful work... and yes, like everyone's already said before, this whole deal is pretty sweet. Maybe if we knew a little more about your setup... basically I could leave mine like it is and call it quits, but I'm having too much fun, so I had to get an EPROM burner. I mean sure, you can have it a permanent setup...

EDIT: Oh, and as for the launch contol, it's a REV limit until you get to a certain speed. Sitting idle and you push the gas down, it bounces off 3000 rpm just waiting for your foot to release that clutch I think in this case it's set to around 3000rpm UNTIL 6mph.. but after that everythings normal.

does it matter what kind of 28 pin eeprom i use? theres a few that look the same, but they all have different serial/part numbers...

I use ATMEL AT29C256s.. these are rewriteable, and cheap, sooooo..

Rextec: To make a long story short, the 88-89 PM6 and all the PM7's have a microcontroller that has the EPROM built into it. The 90-91 PM6 and the OBD0 PR4's have a PROMless Microcontroller, and an EXTERNAL 28 pin EPROM chip. That is why it is so easy to chip those ECU's. The EPROM only holds the program itself. The Microcontroller holds the information on how to execute the code. Honda used an Oki 8xC154 proprietary chip for the Microcontroller, and it has one stupid proprietary instruction (A5h) that no other 8051 Microcontroller will understand. This is why it is hard to chip those ECU's. Basically, you need to go through the assembly language (Disassembled) and replace the A5h command with two additional standard 8051 commands that perform the same function, which is coincidentally being done, but not sure on a time frame. Then you will be able to replace the entire 40 pin Microcontroller on the 88-89 PM6's and on the PM7's and achieve the same result.

Wow, I guess that wasn't such a short story after all...

do you know if there would be any way to hook the eeprom socket right into the ECU so u dont need to remove the chip when u wanna retune the car?? just plug in a cable to the lappy?
