Fuel Pump.....
I keep hearing and reading different stories about a fuel pump. Some say yes you need it, some say no, some are like "If you want it can't hurt.". Well, this is HMT and I'm not into spending money on something that isn't needed. I would figure it would more or less depend on the set-up of the vehicle. Any comments or opinions are welcome guys! Thanks!

Re: Fuel Pump.....
Not needed for a mild setup. Good insurance though. I personally run a Wlabro 255. Only cause I got it free though.

Re: Fuel Pump.....
On my old setup I had a MSD inline pump. When I built the new motor and went to TurboEdit I just left the inline pump in there because everybody said it was good to be on the "safe side", you don't want to run out of fuel. I have had some problems with the car(all my fault for trying to tune without a WB ::)) so I finally orderd a LM-1 WB and next week I will be tuning it the right way. In the meantime while I am waiting for the WB I thought I would try taking the inline pump out, it makes WAY too much noise and maybe it is part of the reason that the car runs to rich. Well I have been driving for about a week without the inline pump and the car runs alot better. We will see how it goes when I start tuning the car. Right I am not pushing it to hard because I am just running a base map.

Well ya see, I found a decent deal on a Wlabro Inline Fuel Pump (since its inline it should be easy, right) and I asked what model # and all and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I plan on running 8 psi on a .42/.48 T3. So will I be alright and just upgrade later down the road for more boost? How much can stock handle anyway? Thanks! JP |
Re: Fuel Pump.....
You dont want an inline. You want a hi flow in tank. Not high pressure inline.

Thanks. I think I'll start out with stock since my set-up is "mild". JP |
Re: Fuel Pump.....

Re: Fuel Pump.....
HP in my opinion is not a great idea on a mild setup. Seems that when you throw a HP pump on a stock setup with a stock regulator, its throws the pressure in the rail up to about 55psi which will have to be taken into account when setting up the basemap and tuning unless you buy a FPR to turn down the pressure in the rail to a 'normal' level.

Re: Fuel Pump.....
high pressure is different then high volume. 255 is high volume and probably high pressure

Re: Fuel Pump.....
i love my walbro 255, it's the best sound in the world when that thing primes up :)

Re: Fuel Pump.....
i have a similiar question. i'm building my turbo setup right now and i am a complete newb to FI setups. but i don't know if i should get a 255 fuel pump or not. i can't even tell the difference between an inline and an intank. but my cousin with a turbo ls said i might as well get one. i'll be boosting a b18c1 around 7psi daily and probably 10psi at the track. i already have a vafc2, so i thought i would run that for fuel management along with an FMU. i know it's not the best setup, but it'll work to get me started at least. i was wondering what kind of fuel pump i should run and what ratio fmu. i'll probably be using stock injectors and stock fpr.
