fuel management
 
i intend to replace the 1400cc ohv turbo engine in my renault 5 gt turbo with a 1.8 twincam 16v engine from a renault clio 16v, and turbo this.. as the 1400 is carb fed and the valver engine is injected, i will need some sort of fuel management, with the influx of cheap, jdm peformance cars in this country i have seen a lot of hi-po stuff with a'pexi etc fuel computers, now, my question is, how far do these allow you to stray from the stock fuel curve? ... would i be better off with the safc and a similar "hack" for spark, thus keeping standard ecu saftey features such as limp home mode etc, or should i swap to a cheap mappable ecu, such as sds... remembering this will be a predominantly road driven car, on 99 octane pump fuel
with lowered compression, and up to 20psi of boost

also, how do the cheaper ecu's compare and most importantly, what features do they have, i.e antilag , launch control etc...

You don't need to lower your compression on 99 octane pump fuel. That's really good fuel and you'll get little trouble with detonation on 99 octane.
if you wanna go cheap just put the stock ecu of the clio engine and slap the Apexi S-AFC HAck. Should be good up to 10 psi with a better fuel pump should go a bit higher maybe to 15 don't really know.
If you wanna go all out with ignition timing control and fuel etc. go stand alone, or you can go with the Power perfect piggy back the SMT5 or the SMT6 it let's you control ignition timing and fuel and a lot more for just 300 euro's but you need a laptop to tune.
Will the stock internals of the Clio be able to handle all that power when running on 20 psi?

If you want to run the Clion 1.8 16V engin use the stock ecu and harness, just change the map sensore for and GM one formthe opel calibra. I have done this an it works realy well, I can even give you a base map. Let me know

thats a renault 5 gt turbo - 118 bhp, 0-60 in 7.2 and 127mph from the factory


i will be lowering the compression, you get more power that way, high compression turbo motors are less laggy, but suffer from detonation and make less power due to the fact they have less air moving through them, apart from the lower CR, i will be having the rods stress relived.. the rest of the engine is strong and can be left standard


i may just use a ignition retard box and a mapped 5th injector to start off with..
