few questions about turboedit

so i will be turboing my crx soon and i'm new to the whole tuning thing. i downloaded turboedit to check it out and try to get an idea what i'm doing. i've read a bunch on it but i'm still like ??? . so anyway i had a few questions about chipped ecu's.

i think this is what i'm gonna need
Xenocron Tuning: OBD0 Chipped ECU (PM6 or PR4). #[PM6-Chipped]

the datalogging cable means i can just hook it straight to a laptop instead of using a chip burner correct? i'll probably get flamed for this thread but i'm just trying to understand it all before i get too ahead of myself.

if your going to stay obd0 and use turboedit....get a chipped ecu (pm6, pr4, ps9 or pm7), a datalogging kit, an ostrich2 (instead of a burner and chips), and a wideband (lc-1 or equivalent)...all available from xeno...

ECU
Emulator
LC-1 with 02 Sensor
Datalogging Cables and Kits

im not sure what the best solution is for the datalogging cable, as im still in the stone age with my old gotspeed rs232 board. if you have a friend with a wideband and/or emulator then you can save money on that. if you need help tuning, i get to binghamton once in awhile...

ok thanks for the info. i'll let you know how it goes.

would this be a better wideband? since it has a gauge with it?

Innovate DB-Blue Gauge / LC-1 Kit - P/N: 3795 - #3795 [INN_3795] - $229.00 : Moates.Net

for an extra $30...i would get it. i have the older style db gauge from innovate (nordskog) and it was about $100. this was after my homemade panel meter gauge ---- the bed.

what about a pr3 ecu?
I have one already in my b16 turbo 91 dx. just trying to stay out of the complications of obd1 conversion if what I already have will work.

With a pr3 you should look at using BRE instead. As it supports dual tables/vtec directly. TE only has single ignition/fuel tables.

what is bre?

twack 03-25-2009 05:05 PM

if your looking for a cheap wide band look at the JAW its a do it yourself and amazing.

fwdftmfw 03-25-2009 05:05 PM

where do I find that at?
lol I feel like a rookie all over again.

to the OP:
1 No the data logging cable does not give you the ability to tune in real time, you need an emulator like an ostrich for that, the data logging cable is just for data logging which you need a program for.
2 if you use a pm6 ecu then use turboedit (this is what i did on my b16) but BRE was not available back then for the pr3 so I would go that way then you can tune the vtec map independently which will work much better
3 you should really just go obd1 and use ectune it is soooo much better, this will only cost you $300 for the ecu and the jumper harness, plus if you decide the tuning is over your head most shops won't touch a program like bre or turboedit because they are considered way old school however it should be easy to find someone to tune an obd1 program like ectune

cool. Iv already ordered the basic obd0 to obd1 conversion harness. I know I can swoop up a p28 pretty easy for a bill. some one was saying I need to get a obd1 dizzy too. so is that everything? and why do i need a obd1 distributor? and do I need a plug harness to convert to obd1 dizzy? sorry I know alot more about obd1 tuning this is my first 88-91 chasis car, I never wanted a ef but I got too good of a deal to pass it up and its growing on me.
I really really appreciate all the help guys

New Page 1 if you can use a soldering iron, which a blind monkey can do, then this is super easy and you can log it
