Default ECU problem???

sorry, this is a post dealing with a buddies car,

hes got an 89 civic 5spd (hes still getting back to me on engine type and ecu type)

brought it to a shop because when you step on the gas it bogs out, so the shop replaced the fuel filter, well it didnt fix it, so what they did is they tapped on the ecu and it started running better, i have some spare ecus i was going to bring to him (he lives two hours away) to try in the car to see if it runs better,

my question is, does this sound like an ecu problem? and if you think so, does anyone know where i can go to get a list of obd0 and obd1 ecus and what they correspond with so i know what ecus i have? please dont ask me to list all of them because i have over 15, hes getting back to me on the ecu number so i can see if i have the right one, but if i dont, if someone has a list i could just see if i have one that works

any help would be appreciated, should be getting motor type and ecu type to me any minute and ill reply when i know, thanks

i doubt the ecu is the problem i dont think i have seen an ecu from those cars go bad and the only one that might work is the pm8 out of the hf i would look at a fucked up dizzy(most likely the igniter) or shitty injectors i know on the dpfi engines the secondary injector gets dirty and does not work correctly tell you freind to take out the injectors and clean it up with some throttle cleaner and put it back in

it could be the TPS sensor or the IAC sensor as well. i replaced those and it fixed my similar problem on my 97 tiburon.
