Hyperterminal is a program in windows. You should be able to twist the rx and tx together and then plug in the usb. Open programs, accessories, communication, and hyperterminal. Click file, properties and then select the com your usb adpater is on. When chosen you should be able to type and it will come up on the screen.

If you have them twisted together and you can't type after choosing the correct COM port then you have a problem with the cable iteself or its not installed right.
