E85 tuning
of all the research and threads I read about tuning with E85, I understand that you have to tune the car to see lower AFR's if I wanna run 14.7 I have to tune to see 9.1 when using e85.
am I misunderstanding this? does it means that on my wideband readout I need to see 9.1 or I need to see 14.7 ? I did some thinking, and what I am understanding makes no sense to me. so my thinking came up with this. if I tune the car to read 14.7 AFR on the wideband, the actual AFR that the car will be using is 9.1 AFR while using E85 correct me if I am wrong. please break it down gentle for me at tele tubby level. I used e85 before, but becuse of my misunderstanding I was running the wideband at 10.1 afr usng a 50/50 mix of gas and ethanol. please only educated replies, thank you. |
Re: E85 tuning
Stoich is at a different ratio for E85, you tune your wideband to that ratio. Throw 14.7 out the window. Hope your injectors are up to the task :6

Re: E85 tuning
what about a 50/50 mix of e85 and 93?

Re: E85 tuning
since lambda is set for gasoline it'll read just like gasoline. 14.7 actually is 9.1...simple

Re: E85 tuning
14.7 cause like I was saying. Your lambda is set for gasoline, Im actually running on e85 right now, good stuff, 2 degrees advanced timing and 2.5 degrees in boost. It just reads normally, 14's means Im at stoich point...11-12's means Im hitting boost

Re: E85 tuning
e85 = 85% ethanol 15% gasoline
50/50 mix of gasoline and e85 = stupidity! |

Re: E85 tuning
It would be like 65% gas 35% ethanol! so e35!

If the E85 is cheaper, just run that. No need to mix. Other than that what would be your reasoning for mixing the two? |
Re: E85 tuning
gas is still $4+ a gallon here.
E85 is in euros and the euro is kicking the dollars ass. but the cost 1 euro a liter for E85 after the conversion it still cost more per liter for e85 compared to a liter of gas. esso is the only station that support us here, and they don't sell e85. reason why gas is cheaper than e85 for me is that we don't pay tax on stuff bought through the army, but since the army don't sell e85 I have to buy from the germans. reason why I wanna run e85 is that I blew my motor while street tuning on pump gas, detonate at 23psi melt a piston. AFR 11.5 timing 12 degrees ran 20 psi on a trash can stock motor using e85 the motor is still in excellent condintion. note t67 turbo. I wanna make 600whp I don't think 1000cc injectors will support that using 100% e85 . I also use methanol injection. I am also setup for a 75 shot of nitrous which I will use. |
