i need a "support tool" for greddys emanage but dont want to pay the ridiculous prices and u cant use any cable but theirs..any1 make one ?? ive heard of people doing this...preferably usb to usb ---- serial if possible, just need some tech help.

 

Post pictures of the connectors, and links to any threads where DIYing the cable is discussed. I can probably advise.

 

I was interested in this as well (hoping to build one myself). However I cant find much information about how the cable has been cloned. What I do know is the cable you buy is a USB to Serial cable. The "USB" side of the cable is just a usb plug, their is some type of circuit board/electronics that takes the signal from the usb side of the plug and converts it before it hits the serial side of the plug. It has been cloned before but noone wants to disclose any information on it, they just want to sell it. If it helps any here is a picture of one clone cable on a site where this guy sells them :

All that is a USB to DB9 adapter.

 

I did a bit of research on that... The db9 is just the type of plug for the serial port in the computer right? Apparantly their is some type of circuit device that does something with the signals somehow. If it were that easy we wouldnt depend on the select few people who sell clone cables =-(

Just go on eBay. They have USB --> serial converters for like $10 shipped or less all the time. I got mine there on the cheap.

 

You got your cable for your emanage on ebay? They seem to have a circuit board in them that controls something. Standard usb to serial cables do not work.
