Those black pieces are called pintle caps.

oh ok well will damage/absence of the pintle caps make a difference in injector performance

The guy I am buying from says he has DSM 550's?
I haven't really seen alot of those and was wondering which car they came out of? |
They don't. The largest stock injectors I've seen is Evo 510's. 550s are aftermarket unless he meant blue top 450s...
|
yea I dnt know of any stock injectors over 510...i have the 450's...still wondering if missing pintle cap affects the injectors performance
|
Pintle caps help flow, and atomization of fuel, so yes they matter. They won't keep you from running, but you'll end up with more unburnt fuel in your exhaust (backfires, bad mileage, slight lean condition). Pintle caps are cheap, especially for bluetops.

The pintle caps are cheap to replace by any injector cleaning shop. and there is a bigger DSM injectors ..it's the 560cc yellow top which came stock on the evo 8/9.
