Do i have this right?
 

I am new to turbo, and have been doing my research. Only part really confusing me is the engine management, so let me see if i got it right.

Btw i plan on using an ihi rhb5 probably off a probe, on my d16y8, running stock psi which is 8 i believe.

So as far as engine management goes is this what i have to do:

-buy obd2 to obd1 conversion harness
-buy p28 chipped ecu
-download uberdata
-somehow put the uberdata onto the p28
-then go to a shop and have them tune my uberdata (is this what tuning is?)

Basically...if you buy a pre-chipped ECU, it helps if the person selling it to you is competant and can give you a basemap on a chip with the ECU

that way you can then drive it to a tuner and let them take care of the rest

And that would eliminate the need for uberdata? So i can buy a prechipped ecu with a basemap and go straight to a tuner and be done with it?

no not if the basemap is an uberdata basemap. Either way your gonna need uberdata its what you use to create a basemap. For obd1 of course

See, what you do is send your ecu to xenocron with all of the info about your setup. He installs a chip with an uberdata (or various other programs of your choice) basemap on it. What the basemap is is basically a "tune" for your car that is rich but still safe to run, (but not forever!!!!). Now with this basmap you drive your car over to a local tuner and he fine tunes this basemap to get the correct air/fuel ratio and ignition settings. Or if you are willing to learn and feel more satisfied you could buy a few extra things and learn to fine tune the basemap yourself. :)

Well, I am in canada and i think he is in the states, so shipping and border fees would rape me. I know someone who is selling an obd2 to obd1 harness with a chipped p28 locally. So i need to ask him to install an uberdata basemap on the chip?
Oh btw, im assuming that the zc basemap will work with the d16y8 right?

You install Uberdata on a computer and make fuel map files with it (called a bin file).

Then you take a little electronic gadget called a burner (or EEPROM Burner) and copy the bin file to a chip.

You modify your ECU to accept this chip.

You can also datalog (with the proper tools), modify your bin files, burn new bins to the chip and try it with your ECU again.

I do a lot of Canadian guy's ECUs. I ship air mail and from what I know none of my customers get charged border fees.

See, your ECU doesnt care what program is running in the ECU...Uberdata, Crome whatever. The basemap could be made in one program and your tuner could use a completely different program.

A lot of you guys probably dont even realize there are really smart people out there that have created their own Hondata's, Uberdata's, Crome's and they tune locally using their own stuff just fine. Now there certainly arent tons of these types out there but do you think Neptune just magically appeared? Nope he tuned for nearly two years I think before he released it and made it semi-public.

Bottom line...as long as your ECU likes the code thats put in it (whether its Hondata, Neptune, uberdata or Crome), it will run nicely if tuned properly.

I'm in BC and got my ecu stuff from xenocron.No customs ass ------- because he labels it "warranty repair parts" ;) and shipping cost next to nothing.I would highly recommend you go through him as well.It took I think 4-5 days to get here and I'm on the westcoast.Def a good vendor and a nice guy to boot.
