Did I ruin my ECU?
I desoldered an old chip out of my ECU, and pulled out a couple wires by accident. Is the ECU still useable? ???

Post a clear picture.

You mean a trace. Depends how bad but there is a good chance yes

Re: Did I ruin my ECU?
When I popped the chip out, pieces of the copper wires in the motherboard came out still attached to the pins of the chip. It still starts and runs my car, but I don't know if it's still good enough to be chipped and work.

usually i snip all the pins going into the board to avoid that from happening. hope it isn't fucked

Re: Did I ruin my ECU?
Take a single peice of copper wire, and remake the trace.
Tack it to the originating point, then lay it flat then follow the trace, bending it at the same points as the original trace, then run it through the hole and solder it as normal. Cut off the excess. Very simple. |
Re: Did I ruin my ECU?
Indeed, just takes some time. I've had to rebuild "Fire Victim" ecu's before and follew traces back that you could barely see. But, your ecu is definately usable if you fix it this way.
