Did I fry my ECU?

Last night I was leaving my sisters, at about 4000 rpm the car stuttered and jerked and died out on me.

Got back to my sisters, and it would run, but I was getting all sorts of weird readings from the air/fuel junk gauge.

Started playing with wires up near the o2 sensor, and as I moved them, the car stalled out. The o2 sensor wires were pretty tore up, from about 8 swaps, so I figured I'd replace it.

So i did this morning, and I am still having the same problem. Biggest thing you notice is the tach bounces all over...at about 3000rpm it jumps to 5000rpm on the tach and the CEL comes on and the car stalls out. Now its completely dead. If I turn the key to the on position, the CEL comes on very dim, and there is a constant ticking noise coming from under the dash, like around the fuse box. Possible bad relay? Let me know what you think.

Car is a 95 ex coupe d16z6 with a p28

Bad main relay?

Is the ECU chipped? Connections are good?

alternators good.

ecu is stock. (chipped but jumper is cut to run stock 240's and stock map. and ive used this ECU for over 3 years now). The problem just occured, I've been driving fine without troubles for a long time.

I'll try out the relay tomorrow. Is the main relay the one under the dash, that seems to be where the clicking is coming from.

Ok my Car did the same thing. Check for loose or dirty conections at your battery or any spot that it hooks to your car or under hood fuse box. That clicking sound is your main relay turning on and off cuz the connection keeps going bad. Then once you fix that your car will work just fine. Tell me this, does it die only when you are going slow or when you are driving at speed?

it started out to where as soon as I accelerated to about 3000rpm it would die, the tach jumped around from 3000 to 5000 just at a 0mph parked rev.

its not the main relay, i bought a new one, now its just a louder noise than befpre...

battery connections are fine. ive had motors in and out over a half dozen times, so they're clean and good.

this is ------- gay, now I have to try to find a ride to work again, and be back to having no car.

any other ideas?

notes:

not ECU, i think
not relay
not loose/corroded battery wires

there could be a bad wiring with intermentent connection. Or just a bad battery or alternator. who knows? I would have to see the car and tinker a bit. Thats all I can tell you. Find someone with a known good battery and alternator and put those in. That will eliminate those problems.

its neither of those problems, the car was running fine and turns over perfectly. The CEL is the only thing dimly lit, everything else works fine and the car turns over strong, battery and alt are only a few months old anyways.

Re:Did I fry my ECU?

well i think i found it, on the engine harness, the o2 signal wire is either not making good contact where its been spliced (near the plug where the o2 sensor connects)

or it is shorted out somewhere along the wire further down...eeesh

I hardly have the means to fix this here.

Did you solder the o2 sensor or crip it? That could be your problem but most likely not. I don't know.
