Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
OK, I changed my D16Y7 engine out in my 96 civic. I changed the intake manifold to a Y8 mani, installed a timing belt and tensioner, new stage II clutch AND made a turbo kit for it. It fired right up. I drove it around the block and got a #9 CEL. So, the crank sensor is plugged in. How should I go about diagnosing this so I dont pull the timing covers and find out the issue is the conversion harness? Can I ohm it out or something along those lines or should I just pull the motor apart and use another snesor?
Thanks David |
Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Well I had Frank check Alldata and he says all the sensors for the 96 are in the distro. I will change the distro and try that after the rain stops.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
His car isn't a 92-95

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
I have a few spair OBDIIa distros. I will swap it out when the rain stops. I thought the cyp would be the sensor at the crank but the Alldata says its in the distro too.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Replaced distro with a known good one. Code 9 came back.......So does anyone know for sure on the OBDII that the sensor that would give a 9 on a conversion to OBDI is the crank sensor?
|
Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
every obd2 car ive messed with has had a crank sensor.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Yes but I was told after converting to OBDI that isnt used anymore and its just the distro that is in control. CoreyR just told me he once had a bad ecu and it threw 9. He changed it and it was fine. Im getting frustrated.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
I just checked the pin out for the conversion harness and its definately correct. I guess I will get another ecu or borrow one to test with.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Its one of those boards that sticks up horizontal in the ECU if it is the ECU that is the problem...if you have any bunk ECUs around, try desoldering those boards (one at a time) and see if that works...

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
No spair ecus.....

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Try another ECU

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP?
Picking up a P06 and a chip kit from CoreyR tonight. Hope it fixes my problems.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
I changed the ECU. Problem solved.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
Odd, glad you fixed it.

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
dude fire, FIRE!
|
Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
LOL ITS NOT FIXED!!!! I thought it was the ecu. I chipped another. It lit on fire due to a bad cap. I just got back from CoreyR's place and we swapped out parts with his car. Its my conversion harness that is bad. PIECE OF ----!!!!

Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
been there, done that.. my harness had about 4 or 6 wires backwards POS..
it was a skunk harness |
Re: Diagnosing CEL 9 CYP? FIXED!
I depinned the cyp wires and expanded the pins so it would make a better connection. I drove it quite a bit last night with no CEL. I ordered a new conversion harness from Chris at www.------------- anyway as piece of mind.
