Desoldering Stations
I'm thinking about purchasing a desoldering station for chipping ECU's.
This thing looks kinda ancient but I have heard that HAKKO is a good brand so I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/Hakko-707-Desold...QQcmdZViewItem Thanks :y |
Re: Desoldering Stations
Whatever you get... make sure you can buy replacement parts for it.

Re: Desoldering Stations
i bought one of those desoldering tools from radio shack; basicaly its a 45w iron with a suction bulb and a tip on it with a hole in it.
fucker works great; cost $12; i can have a chip out of an ecu in like 30 seconds |

Re: Desoldering Stations
i tried one of those and thought it sucked. but maybe i was using it wrong :-[. i ended up getting one of those suction tools and it works great with the ecu in a vise and soldering iron on the other side.
maybe i'll look into getting one of those desoldering stations if i start to do any more ecu's to justify spending the money. |
Re: Desoldering Stations
im still old school with the spring operated vacuum

Re: Desoldering Stations
yeah, i guess if you don't use it much, it's not bad at all. i was using mine doing hours of back to back chipping, my thumb would get sore, the cheap ass tips would wear down about every 10 ecu's, you have to make a mess blowing out all the old solder, no heat adjustment, etc., etc.
