Desoldering Stations
 

I'm thinking about purchasing a desoldering station for chipping ECU's.

This thing looks kinda ancient but I have heard that HAKKO is a good brand so I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this unit:

i've got the hakko 808, it ------- owns, period. i can desolder a whole ecu for chipping and vtec conversion in about 2 minutes, no bullshit. you feel like a pure ecu pimp with that thing in your hands, i suggest you get one :y

i bought one of those desoldering tools from radio shack; basicaly its a 45w iron with a suction bulb and a tip on it with a hole in it.

fucker works great; cost $12; i can have a chip out of an ecu in like 30 seconds

na dude, i used one of those for almost 2 years and thought it couldn't get any better, trust me, vacuum operated desoldering stations cut chipping time in half, if not more. don't act like your thumb doesn't get sore from that fucker ;)

i tried one of those and thought it sucked. but maybe i was using it wrong :-[. i ended up getting one of those suction tools and it works great with the ecu in a vise and soldering iron on the other side.
maybe i'll look into getting one of those desoldering stations if i start to do any more ecu's to justify spending the money.

haven't really used it much; and the way i hold it i dont use my thumb for the bulb ;)
you gotta admit its 2000000000000000000000000X better than a solder sucker and soldering iron; or, god forbid, desoldering braid; i HATE that ----

yeah, i guess if you don't use it much, it's not bad at all. i was using mine doing hours of back to back chipping, my thumb would get sore, the cheap ass tips would wear down about every 10 ecu's, you have to make a mess blowing out all the old solder, no heat adjustment, etc., etc.
