chipping toyota ecu
i know this is generally a honda site but u al look pro at turboing so ill ask neway
i was wondering how and where i could get my ecu re chipped to read boost and to re map my fuel curve, ive had an safc before and ive doen swaps and stuff but ive never dealt with turbocharging my car before is there a program online i could download and buy a cable that would attach it to a laptop or computer or would i send it somewhere? thanks for the info |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
I think this ask been explored before and As far as the responses I remember from the past, the answer is no. I don't think there is any other form other then Megasquirt or an AFC

Re: chipping toyota ecu
i know uberdata nd z dyne wont work but i really dont feel like running boost on my stock ecu
are there any ways i could safly run boost on my stock ecu w no safc or re tuning my ecu? i was panning on just upping my base idel Fp from 36 to 42 psi and running 320 cc injectors...but other than that is there anything that i can do? thanks |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
I guess I'll go ahead and ask since it will be asked sooner or later. What engine, car etc...
If you are running a 4age or a 4agze, there are several things people are working with. There is a company called EL Prototypes that apparently makes some some sort of ECU upgrade for the 4ag motor. There is also a chip of sorts called the Unichip. I am not familiar with this at all but all of the local aw11 mr2 guys swear by it. If none of the above ecus work, there is a piggyback system called the grunt box that works in conjuction with a 4agze ecu and utilizes the cold start injector. Head over to www.mr2oc.com and read up. They have all sorts of info if you are looking into the 4ag motor. Also, if you have a MAF toyota, the afc will not work. I, as well as a jillion other people, tried this back in the day and it doesnt work. -Nick |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
e well i have an A series motor :) but its not a good one, its a 4afe... but i have a 4agze sitting in my garage im swapping the bottem ends out for (4agze is stong and an overall better motor as wel as can handle lotsa boost) i want to boost this setup right after i swap the bottem ends out...
but yea i have a maf sensor, so basically what ur saying is other than running the gze injectors and upping my basse idel FP im SOL.... oh yea im still using the stock 4afe ECU, do you think is be able to use a USDM 4agze ecu on my 4afe? becuase it would read boost, as well as there basically the same type of motor with difrent head (f head is economical and g head is performance) but im pretty sure it would work... so yea if i just use my 4afe ecu im pretty much screwed oh yea the turbo is a 300zx T3 wastgate is set at 5.5 psi |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
I think your best bet would be to head over to www.mr2oc.com and ask them. I am not familar with the 4af motor. I know it is in the same family so in theory it should work. But definatly check over there. They should be able to help you.

Re: chipping toyota ecu
if you just turn up the fuel pressure and put in bigger injectors with no controll you WILL blow your motor up ...god damn i dont know how many times i have told peepz this, you cant put bigger injectors in unless you have a way to controll them....either use megasquirt if you want real managment, or keep your boost below 7 psi and run an fmu with stock injectors, or GO HOME......

Re: chipping toyota ecu
I looked for while for Toyota ECU rom editors and chipping info for a buddy with a turbo all trac. I can up empty at every corner and every forum.

Re: chipping toyota ecu
my only option for ecu tuning is to send it into JET, its $400 tho but they make it boost capable and re map ur fuel curve...but i dont really have that kinda money

Re: chipping toyota ecu
check out megasquirt

Dougie from Hyundaidata (I think?) showed me a picture of a JET chipped OBD1 Civic ECU... without the J1 jumper installed. Amazing company! Early Toyota EFI was a licensed version of Bosch Mo or Jetronic. LH-Jet, I think?? In that case, you probably have a very simple ECU to molest if it's anything like the BMW, Volvo, Audi variants. Very easy as in those are crude, simple ECUs with commonly available MCU tools, for an electronics/coding DIYer to play with. |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
how exactly does megasquirt work i checked otu their page, how do you intall/tune it?
thanks |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
Probably be more helpful if you asked them...
But basically, you get all the parts, build the ECU, install it in your car (rewire if necessary) and tune. |
Re: chipping toyota ecu
Mill out your intake and place bungs for 4 DSM 450's right behind your factory injectors on another 4AFE fuel rail mounted backwards from the first one. Take out your FPR and tap the hole to make a feed for the other rail. Use the FPR on the second rail and locate on the driver's side where the return pipe that runs under the manifold comes out and hook up a 1:1 regulator on the return there. Should be just fine with a cheap-ass AIC or auxilliary injector controller. Fuel pump runs out of breath over 12-13 psi. And you better get a BTM or somehow pull a -----ton of timing of you will blow your engine all the ------- time. Also, don't forget that if you for some reason continue development with a 4AFE, you CAN use a 4AGE head gasket, so get a fattie one. Good luck!

Re: chipping toyota ecu
ohp well turbo project went to crap just ui threw a rod bearing with it n/a, haha thanks eveyone for the help though, this sucks. looks like im going to swap out the bottem end for my 4agze bottem end a litle sooner than i thoght
