Chipping
I reacently chipped a pm6 ecu and upon testing, the ecu gave out a solid cel and the car won't start from it. I know that it is not the chip but i think is the soldering of the 28 pin dip socket. How do i determine which of a pin or pins need more solder? Do I have to start over in desoldering and resoldering the 28 pin dip socket? Step by step in chipping do you need flux then solder onto each pin or solder only? I am also having a problem pooling the solder onto each pin.

Re: Chipping
Short and simple...do it over and make sure there isnt any colder bridging any of the contacts and make sure you havent pulled up any traces.
To lay solder on the pins, lay the iron tip on the pad and have it touching the leg of the socket as well and add a slight amount of solder, you dont want too much and you dont want to leave the iron on the melted solder for too long either. |
Re: Chipping
..and lastly, I use flux-core.

Re: Chipping
Dirty cheap type of solder from radio shack.. Very easy to use.
