chip kit problem?

I recently chipped a p06 ECU and when I went to burn a chip and test it in my car I got a solid CEL. This ECU was in my car and in good working order before I chipped it. From what I can tell all the soldering I did is good... the one thing I am concerned with is the 74hc373 20 DIP chip that I soldered in. I think I may have gotten it a little warm. Now when I pull the jumper for J1 I still get a solid CEL... I guess what I'm trying to get at is, if I got that chip to hot and destroyed it, would this be why the CEL stays solid? Thanks.

With J1 out the computer will disregard that section of the board, So that should not be the problem. Did you do anything to the board outside of "chipping" it?

Did you convert it to vtec?

No I have not done anything other than install a chip kit from xenocron in it. I get a solid CEL with or without J1 jumpered. The car will start and run, but it runs like ---- of course. There is no difference in how the engine runs when you jump J1 either... I've checked to make sure there are no shorted solder connections and have double checked all the solder connections to make sure they were good.

i had that happen once and just went around and cleaned up any stray solder that might be touching somehting it shouldn't be and touched all the joints with a warm iron just to make sure. 9 times out of 10 that is the problem.

Re: chip kit problem?

I bought another chip kit from xenocron and tried chipping the p05 i had laying around. The computer is doing the SAME thing as the po6. I get a solid CEL with j1 jumpered or without it jumpered. I know that both of these ECUs were good before hand. Is there something special that im not doing and needs to be done to run Uberdata correctly? When i press the gas pedal i get major hesisatation like the TPS is bad... If someone has some information on what i can check or a better site then the one im using the chip these ECUs... please let me know. The site i have been going by is http://home.comcast.net/~keebler65/honda/uberdata.html

My guess is that you arent burning the chip correctly...

What burner are you using and are you using an SST or Atmel chip?

Re: chip kit problem?

Using the Willem burner with a Amtel 29c256 chip. I went back through and touched all the solder joints with the soldering iron again just to make sure. when i plugged it into the car I now get a flashing CEL with code 68. I know that there is no code 68... but that's what the dang thing is flashing. Anyone ever had this happen? I Google'd it and found a few other people having the same code 68, and they also run Uberdata... I did not see a fix or anyones insight on what the problem could be... they all pretty much just said "that's not possible, there is no code 68... you're reading the light wrong". I am going to try burning a new chip today and see if anything else changes... I'll post updates later this afternoon. If anyone has any info on that CEL code 68.. please let me know.

Thanks
