Changing ecu
 

I currently have a b16 in a 91 hatch with a PW0 ecu and would like to run ghettodyne or uberteg software, so I can adjust my timing (as of now I am going to use an afc and 450cc injectors). The question is, how hard would it be to swap in an ecu that is supported by one of these programs. thanks kids

I don't think any insult was implied...but that's just me.

You have to use a PM6 (90-91 CRX/Civic Si) ECU in order to use Ghettodyne (well, you can use a 88-89, but it's a major pain in the ass and requires some considerable modifications). Since the PW0 and PM6 are both OBD0, there's no wiring conversion, they both plug right in to an OBD0 car (yours). The PM6 does not have a mechanism to activate VTEC like the PW0 does, nor does it have two sets of fuel/timing maps (VTEC low/hi cam)...You'll need to wire up a VTEC controller, like an AFC or RPM activated switch to kick off VTEC, and you'll run really lean (especially in VTEC) since the B16 is going to need more fuel than a D16a6. Some major fuel tuning will be required on the dyno once installed. I don't have any experience with Uberteg's software, but this is a rough idea of what to expect if you plan to use ghettodyne. -Z

To clarify with running DOHC maps on a PM6 based ECU, you can do it. It's not a problem at all.

There are is one difference in VTec being stock by an ECU, and being run from a controller. That difference is the fact that VTec will not be engaged at low speed. With a controller, whenever you hit that RPM, VTec will be engaged. With this in mind, ALLLLLL you have to do is map low cam maps below your crossover point, and high cam maps above your cross over. Set your cold rev limit just below your cross over point just to make sure that you don't hit VTec while the engine is cold and you're all set. 240cc injectors can run a B16 w/o becoming saturated.

So, to review, PM6 based hardware can run DOHC maps no problem. It's all in how you do it.
