CEL on p28 ecu (code 16) after 450cc upgrade

Has anyone here got this set up? Using the 450cc injectors? OBD2 -> OBD1 conversion harness from HASport. Using the D15B7 distributor (for the present, I'm going to use the OBD2 distributor tommorow and see if it makes a diff.)

I've got the engine wired up for a y8 and converted down to a p28 ECU. Throwing code 16 -> but only at idle. Just curious what your AFC settings are and if you are experiencing this same code? or if you ever did, and how you resolved it.

Could this be the fuel pump as well? I'm still using factory :)

Code 16 = "defective circuit or unplugged / defective fuel injector"

Sounds like it's not AFC related - it's injector output circuit related. Check your injector resistance, I bet somethings funny.

okay, possibly the resistor box has gone bad? They are supposed to measure out 10 watt / 10 ohms of resistance right?

Well 3 of the injectors tested around the same resistance... I guess its hard to get a reading since the solenoid wants to open when you move across it. One of them read a bit higher when the initial reading hit.

I had a set of 4 injectors, but the tip on one of them (the black case that goes into the manifold) was cracked so I bought an extra -> even though they're all blue tops it looks like they aren't interchangable.

Possibly the resistance was different on different year DSMs?

Anyways, going to plug in that broken cap injector and see if it still throws the code... but on the plus side my water injection is set up now (thanks to onyx), speakers are rewired, my boost gauge is :) and the engine actually starts up every time!

Alright this is getting wierder and wierder!
Onyx double checked the wiring, we did find a loose connection on the harness to the ECU that wasn't taped up, fixed that. Replaced the MAP sensor, double checked the wiring to the fuel injectors...

Then we got smarter and plugged in the obd2 p28 ecu, it came up with a misfire in cylinders 2/4 and no secondary oxygen sensor was connected (code 65 and 72/74 I think). Found out that the harness had got backwards to those two cylinders.
Fixed this problem, only code flashing with the OBD2 P28 now is the missing secondary oxygen sensor (I don't have one anymore since I decided to go to obd1).

HOWEVER this code 16 still shows up on the obd1 ecu... but the OBD2 one runs nice and will actually let me engage vtec and such... the obd1 because of this code is cutting fuel at 3,500 rpms.

Does anyone know why in the hell OBD1 is confused? Could it be that this problem might be relative to the oxygen sensor (secondary) for obd2 and the ecu is just assuming thats the most likely problem and thus not flashing anything else?

This one REALLY has me stumbled... please help!

Re:CEL on p28 ecu (code 16) after 450cc upgrade

I mean the engine is not backfiring, I don't believe its misfiring or the OBD2 ecu should catch that. Unless this might be something to do with the dizzi (I'm using the d16z6 distributor for the present)?
Could it be the IACV (d16y8)?
I wouldn't think that the IACV would make a difference since a regular obd2 -> obd1 conversion doesn't throw this code, and if its the dizzy why isn't the obd2 ecu throwing a code?

I honestly don't know what the hell is going on!

Doing a little probing, I'm finding that OBD2 never had a fuel injector error engine code? If so ... how can I troubleshoot this? Unplug each injector until the code goes away? replace each one one at a time?

haha finally got this code to fix, believe it or not it was a ground for VTEC!
Now theres a code 21 which is the other vtec solenoid, but the ------- car is running right wahoooooooooooo

Wait, OBD2 to OBD1 conversion? I'm an idiot. You're 99-00 Civic or 00-01 Integra, right?

The VTEC wiring on those cars is a bit different than the earlier cars... lemme look up the details, but RPT was mentioning such a VTEC problem with OBD2b to OBD1 converted CTRs on the PGMFI Forum.

It'll be Sunday night/Monday before I can get back to you, having a carolinahondas.com meet and such this weekend, but I'm 90% confident I have your fix.
